Gunther is a 5-year-old, pure-bred, smooth-coated, black and tan Dachshund. He has some white markings that are very pretty and the white around his chin are his color markings, NOT an older age thing. This dog is a young dog. Dachshunds easily live to be 17 or 18. Gunther weighs close to 16 lbs, and is considered a “Tweenie.” He has the shiniest black coat that I have ever seen. He is a GORGEOUS Dachshund. Words to describe Gunther are: super sweet, shy, endearing, and sensitive. An example of what I mean by sensitive is, on the day that he came to the rescue, he whined all day long. But by the next day, he decided that I was “his person,” and the next day after that, he decided that I was his best friend. So the good news is, Gunther just wants to know who his person is, settle in, and be with you and love you. He wants to stay in one place, know he is there to stay, and receive life-long long companionship and love. Needless to say, the whining only lasted a day or two. The person(s) who adopts him must be loving and kind enough to give him a chance to adjust to his new home.
Gunther loves to be in whatever room you are in. He is looking for a bond and he is a dog that will attach fairly quickly. He does not need to follow me everywhere, but is still less independent than some other dogs can be. Once Gunther gets to know you, he is an affectionate dog who likes to give sweet kisses. There is just something about Gunther that made me love him so much right away! It is probably the endearing nature that I spoke about earlier. Gunther is very potty-trained, (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment), knows how to go out the dog door, and is also crate-trained. He can be a bit whiny in the crate when I leave the house, but he settles down if I instruct him to do. Unlike most Dachshunds, Gunther seems to bark a bit less. He does this adorable thing that I love; when I give him a treat, and hold the treat there for a bit, he gets up on his hind legs, and holds that pose as long as possible!
The best placement for Gunther is with people who either work from home, or, someone is home much of the time. In addition, Gunther has lived with numerous dogs all of his life. My aim is to place him where there is at least one other dog in the home. Gunther is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Gunther, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail.
