Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hank is an approximately 1.5-2 year old ?Corgi/Terrier mix (our best guess). It is my understanding that Hank was turned in by a couple who had gotten a dog after seeing dogs on TV shows and thinking that they wanted a dog just like those on TV to provide them companionship. However, what they didn't realize is that, while the dogs on TV were quite and unobtrusive as a mouse, dogs in "real life" CAN get to be just like those on TV; HOWEVER, there is much training that goes into training dogs for TV. Dogs also came with other tasks (ie, exercising, etc) for which they hadn't bargained. Thus, this "rough gem" and REALLY nice dog, Hank, is awaiting someone who "speaks Dog" and understands that dogs need training to know what to do and whose ready to make the commitment of providing adequate exercise and training so he can excel. This boy is ALREADY neutered, has been tested heartworm negative just a few months ago AND is up-to-date on shots. For someone looking for a GREAT dog who has all these extras already done, Hank is your man!
Neither the shelter nor our volunteer group (Friends of Ashe County Animals) will transport animals to private adopters. Persons wishing to adopt a shelter animal MUST appear in person at the shelter. Please DO NOT call the shelter directly unless you are (1) planning to drive to the shelter to adopt an animal and need to arrange to meet an Officer or (2) recognize a shelter stray animal as yours and wish to reclaim. Otherwise, we ask that you send questions to fabulousmcg@gmail.com and allow shelter staff to handle emergent calls and their duties of caring for the animals at the shelter.
The shelter does not have the ability to perform heartworm testing on-site. Deworming and/or vaccinations can be done on occasion when medication is available (we rely on donations for this). For reputable rescues, however, local volunteer assistance is available for transport to a local Vet clinic for such testing and to obtain appropriate vaccines and Health Certificate at the rescue's expense. In order to pull animals from Ashe County Animal Control, rescues must be approved. The approval process involves submitting an application, available by emailing a Friends of Ashe County Animals (FACA) volunteer at fabulousmcg@gmail.com. As part of the application, rescues will need to submit copies of their adoption application, adoption contract and 501c3. Rescues will also need to provide a Vet Reference. The Animal Control Officers prefer that all rescue-related inquiries be directed to the volunteer email (fabulousmcg@gmail.com) so please do not contact the shelter with rescue-related inquiries. An FACA volunteer will be checking this email daily so please allow 24 hours for a response. Shelter information: Ashe County Animal Control 767 Fred Pugh Road Crumpler, NC 28617 Shelter Hours: 10:00AM-2PM, MON/WED/FRI. They are closed to public on TU/TH/SAT/SUN.
