Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Allister is an 18 month old male double merle mini available for adoption in Savannah, Georgia.
He weighs 30lbs and is deaf with limited vision.
From what we can tell, Allister can see up to 20 feet in front of him if the object, dog, or person is near his eye level. Although not perfect, his vision still allows him to get around just fine and adapt to new surroundings without hurting himself. He runs, jumps, and plays with his foster brothers without a care in the world, and sports one of the biggest Aussie smiles we’ve seen in a long time!
He’s ADORABLE.
Allister is a grateful, trusting, and affectionate dog. He searches for us (foster parents) and literally CLINGS.
We are not kidding. If you don’t like a velcro Aussie that gives hugs, he’s probably not the right one for you! We have to PEEL him off of us. He’s starved for affection after being rescued from the shelter, but also worries about not being able to find us once we step outside of his small range of vision. He was a little hesitant at first, but quickly warmed up and allowed us to handle him everywhere. We bathe, brush, blow dry, and clip his nails without any problems.
Allister plays very well with two of his three foster brothers, and has no interest in guarding toys or food. He does have difficulty living with an intact male foster sibling, and really doesn’t appreciate being mounted by him. We don’t consider that unusual at all, but would have hoped he’d be able to let him know “HEY – I don’t like that!” a little bit more appropriately. Allister would be a wonderful addition to a family with a female or non-confrontational male dog – of any size. It would be great to find him a sidekick!
Allister is a very special boy looking for a family that either has experience with special needs dogs or has taken a considerable amount of time to do their research before committing to one. He has several behaviors that will require patience, compassion, and unconditional love for the rest of his life, but we can assure you he’s ready to give that kind of love right back! Probably more than you can possibly imagine.
