Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We met a tiny Chihuahua girl at Chicago’s Animal Care & Control who looked to have no hope. She had the biggest mammary tumors hanging off her that we’ve ever seen… of her mere 3 lbs. 7 oz, they probably accounted for a pound of her weight. Once we see dogs like this, we have a hard time walking away, though we weren’t sure we could afford her treatment. In came our super heroes, Trio Animal Foundation. When they learned of this sweet little gal, they didn’t hesitate for a second to not only help, but to cover 100% of her medical care. So we named her Fleur and rescued her from the pound.
Unfortunately, Fleur's happy ending was still far off. Once examined by our vet, he discovered that the tumors were the least of her problems: She had a very concerning growth on her neck that needed attention, and upon further examination, turned out to be a complicated thyroid carcinoma. She also had a 4/5 grade heart murmur, making surgery risky. But after a round of antibiotics and a consultation with a reputable oncologist, her heart murmur decreased to a 1/2 grade. It was then decided that she still had great potential for a high quality of life and to proceed with surgery to remove the thyroid mass, the mammary tumors, plus a dental and spay.
All throughout this process, Fleur was a bubbling little happy gal. She has an enthusiasm for life that is contagious, bouncing around and giving affection to absolutely anyone who comes her way. She has had no idea of all the grave mutations happening in her tiny little frame.
Here’s where we get closer to that happy ending: Fleur's surgery was successful and she is COMPLETELY CANCER FREE!! We didn’t want to let any kittens out of their bags until we knew for sure, and now we’re ecstatic to be able to share her story and to find her the most amazing forever home in which to enjoy her newfound health. Of course, none of this would have been possible without TAF's assistance in saving her life. We are so grateful and so excited to finally put her up for adoption!
Fleur is currently living it up in a foster home with another small male Chi (though she has lived with females and large breed dogs), but it’s time she finds a lap to call her own. Who wants to catch Fleur’s zest for life and bring this tiny, happy girl home?
