My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mary Moo is a sweet little terrier mix that likes nothing better than to hang out with her human(s). Mary is between one and two years old and weighs in at a whopping 11 pounds. What little history we know about her is not good. Mary, along with a young male Chihuahua mix and a male pit mix, were abandoned by their owners, who moved and left them behind on the outside in the elements, left to fend for themselves. It was two weeks before anyone realized what had happened. Fortunately for the dogs, some compassionate neighbors rounded them up and brought them to safety. Mary was very pregnant at the time and gave birth to two puppies one week later.

Her two running mates, along with her puppies, have all found wonderful forever homes. Now it is Mary’s turn. Mary is a pretty little girl, mostly white with tan/red markings and gets her “Moo” name from the big red spot on her side, that makes her look a bit like a cow.

Mary is very food motivated as well as health conscience; she loves her raw fruits and vegetables, with her favorites being carrots and strawberries. She’s been known to munch on most any nut as well. And speaking of nuts, Mary is a bit of a nut herself. She has a tendency to hoard. When you give her a treat or a rawhide, don’t let her fool you into thinking she is going to run off and eat it. Instead, she finds what she considers an appropriate place to hide it, whether it be under a pile of clothes, a leaf in the yard, a shoe on the floor, or even your own behind (as she has done to her foster MOM while she sat on the couch watching tv!). Mary will hoard just about anything – candy, gumballs, even her own kibble.

Mary likes everybody she meets. She currently lives with her foster family whose children are 16 and 9, and enjoys spending time with them as well as their Mastiff mix dog and two cats. We don’t know how Mary does around very small children, but she definitely likes her foster family’s children. She enjoys being held and cuddled and will lick your face to death, all the while with a sideways glance, as if she’s not doing it at all.

Mary also likes to stand guard in the yard and watch over the neighborhood, sunning herself on the porch and watching the world go by. Mary will bark to alert you that someone is there, but she is not yappy or overly barky, as many small dogs seem to be.

Because so much of Mary’s time with her foster family has been spent raising her pups, Mary herself has not had a lot of time to play, so she needs some encouragement to get her play on. She loves going for rides in the car, but needs to be reminded to ride shotgun, rather than in the driver’s seat.

Mary walks well on leash and enjoys walking with her resident dog as well as the other foster dog, a big blue pit. Mary is crate trained but prefers sleeping with her human, all snuggled up under the covers. Mary is house trained (and used puppy pads while she was raising her own two pups), but as with any new pet, she may need some extra attention to be sure she is let outside frequently to know where the bathroom is in her new surroundings.

Mary is spayed, microchipped, current on her shots and flea preventive, and tested negative for heartworm. Mary is being fostered in Sacramento. If you are interested in meeting her, please send an email to request an adoption application. There is a $200.00 tax-deductible adoption fee, which helps to cover a portion of the expenses of all our rescued dogs.
