UPDATE 8/27/13: Rex. the little yorkie mix who was hit by a car a suffered a burst bladder and fractured pelvis, is doing great! He has been to the dog park twice and loved running around. He loved all the other dogs there and had no problem with any of them. He was thrilled to be out of the house! He is still on limited exercise for the next week or so, but he has make a successful recovery!
UPDATED BIO 7/19/13: REX is 3 years old and weighs 8.5 lbs (adjusted weight); he is being fostered in West Palm Beach, FL.
Rex was hit by a car which fractured his pelvis and ruptured his bladder. UYR saved his life!
Rex had his final x-rays today for his pelvis, and the dogtor had good news! He is healing on schedule and the surgery repair looks perfect. Rex still needs to be on limited exercise for the next month, however, to make sure everything heals perfectly and with no stress. He is making great strides everyday. He can now go up and down the stairs, and jump on and off the couch - even though he isn't supposed to be jumping. His initial weight was incorrect at 10 lbs; he currently weighs about 8.5 lbs. He is still a bit on the skinny side, and is slowly gaining weight - we think 9 lbs will be a perfect weight for him.
Rex is a very happy, playful and energetic dog. He gets along great with the other dogs and cats, and loves to eat his bones. While he is now able to use all 4 legs to walk and run, he still does skip on his rear left leg from time to time. We anticipate though, with complete healing, that he will no longer skip on his rear leg and will use all 4 legs equally.
Rex won't be available for adoption until the end of August.

UPDATED BIO 6/26/13 - Rex went to the dogtor yesterday to get his stitches out and for a check up. The dogtor was very impressed with how Rex was healing! He said Rex looked great and was doing better than he'd hoped. He is still somewhat lame in his rear left leg, but he does put weight on it. He has another appointment in 3 weeks. At that time, the dogtor is going to take more x-rays to make sure the pelvis is healing properly. If all goes well, Rex can start light exercise, yipee!!!
Rex has a new friend, a little 5 lb Chihuahua who is visiting for the weekend. He really likes his new friend, and wants to play with him. We think Rex will do well with another playful dog in the household. He is still getting along with the cats, so we think cats will be OK for him. He also seems to be completely house trained and will stand by the door when he wants to go out
PDATED BIO 6/18/13 - Rex is doing very well! He is a little trooper and is acting like nothing has happened to him at all. He is still wearing his collar for another couple of days, but then we should be able to take it off. He doesn't mind it at all, he probably thinks it's just another appendage by now. He has a new video out - it's short, but everyone can see what a little cutie - patootie he is.

UPDATED BIO 06/08/2013: Hi everyone! Rex here to give you an update. I'm 3 years old and 10 lbs. I was hit by a car last week, and my bladder ruptured (my pelvis is broken too). UYR saved me and got me life saving surgery. If it wasn't for all of my fans and their help, I wouldn't be here.
I am recovering well, but my pelvis is still broken and needs to be fixed. I will be going in on Monday to see Dr. Roy at Palm Beach Vet Specialist to have him fix me up. He said something about fixing my sacroiliac joint and that it was important to have this surgery because without it, I might have neurologic dysfunction. All I know is, I can't walk properly and am in a lot of pain when I do walk, so I hope this helps!
Please keep me in your prayers and consider donating to my care. My foster mommy says I might be expensive to fix, but worth every penny! And don't forget - once I get better I will be looking for a new home! Thanks!
UPDATED BIO 06/04/2013: Hi everyone! Rex here to give you an update. I'm 3 years old and 10 lbs. I was hit by a car last week, and my bladder ruptured (my pelvis is broken too). UYR saved me and got me life saving surgery. If it wasn't for all of my fans and their help, I wouldn't be here.
My FM picked me up from the vet yesterday and took me home. (YAY!) I gave her so many kisses to show her how thankful I am. I could tell she was happy to see me too. She said that I'm adorable and that I melt hearts with my big brown eyes. I will be going to another foster mommy in WPB. She's home more during the day and can spend more time with me to give me my medicine and cuddle. I was told she's an awesome FM too. So I look forward to meeting her.
The dogtor said that my fractures are ok for now. I'm on strict bed rest. I will be seen by another dogtor soon to determine if a 2nd surgery is needed. My healing process will be a long one nonetheless.
But for now I'm happy to report that I'm feeling better. I even hop a long a bit so I can go potty but I prefer to use wee wee pads. Makes it easier for me. I'm a good eater and love to cuddle up for a nap.
Thank you everyone for always asking about me. I'll be sure to update again real soon. In the mean time please consider donating to my care. My surgery was really expensive, but I'm happy it saved my life. Thank you all who donated. I love you all very much!
UPDATE 5/31/13 - Hi everyone, it's me Rex! I'm the new kid around here and FM says I've already got tons of fans and everyone is asking how I'm doing. So, I'm happy to say that I'm feeling a little better this morning after my big surgery yesterday. I'm still really tired, sleepy and I'm still hurting. But I think I'm doing okay so far. All of your prayers are working, so please keep praying for me. I'm so thankful to all of my angels.
Rex's FM here, we spoke to the doctor this morning and he said that so far Rex is doing well. They will run more blood tests this afternoon to see if Rex is back in the normal range. He was off the charts yesterday. The next big concern is to see if Rex suffered any nerve damage. As his bladder and abdomen wall start to heal we hope that some of the swelling will go down & he regains some of the sensation in his back legs. For now, he is being given antibiotics and pain medication. He will be monitored 24 hours a day. We're hoping that he gets better each day so that he is strong enough to have surgery to repair his broken pelvis next week. Thank you all for your love & support to Rex. You are all amazing! UYR & Rex loves all of you!!!
UPDATE 5/30/13 - Rex is out of surgery. The doctor was able to repair his ruptured bladder. They located where the rupture was, flushed out the bladder because it has a lot of blood in it and he repaired it. They also found a similar tear in his abdomen which they also repaired.
The next 12-24 hours are crucial as Rex wakes up from anesthesia and begins recovering. Please continue to pray for Rex. He needs to know we're rooting for him!
This is only step 1 of Rex's road to a healthy life. Rex still needs to have surgery to repair his broken pelvis. Surgery was intensive and they did not want to risk him having such a long extensive surgery at once. When he becomes stable the doctors will perform his second surgery.
We will keep everyone posted on Rex's progress. In the mean time, we want to thank everyone who has donated so far. THANK YOU all so very much for your love and support! Please keep sharing the fundraiser. A donation in any amount, big or small will help Rex in a tremendous way. God bless you all!
INITIAL BIO 5/30/13 - Rex is a 3 year old 10lb Yorkie. Our sweet Rex was hit by a car and left to fend for himself. He was picked up by animal control and taken to a high kill shelter. That is when UYR sprung into action to help save Rex.
Rex was rescued from the shelter and taken directly to a 24 hour vet. Doctor's have confirmed that Rex has a ruptured bladder and a broken pelvis. He has multiple fractures in surrounding areas. He will need exploratory surgery to find the rupture of his bladder and repair it. We hope that the repair will stabilize him and blood work back in the normal range. Our little guy will be going through life saving surgery. Rex is fighting for his life. He needs all of the prayers in the world at this time.
We are asking our fans to not only pray for Rex but to also please help us with Rex's surgery. Without donations we will not be able to help yorkies like Rex. Please consider donating towards his surgery. His medical bills will be increasing as he spends each day at the vet. The amount listed on this fundraiser only covers up today's medical care.
