My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bio Update 9/11/13 : Hi, Kieffer here! Foster mom made a mistake with my birthdate... I was 1 year old on Sept. 7th!! Yea!!!! I'm a 5.5 lb. Big Boy!!!

Both of my legs are doing Great! I'm walking and running on both of them. I play hard, and sleep in bed with you through the night. FM calls me a Gorgeous Boy, I guess because I have beautiful dark red hair on my head, face & legs, & the rest of me is black.

I get along with all dogs, but I can act tough...FM laughs when I'm like that! I'm good with children of at least 8 years of age. But, they need to know how small dogs are suppose to be treated...they should have grown-up with a small dog.

If you know I will make your family happy, and you will love me, keep me safe, take great care of me, and play with me...please, fill out an application...I'll be waiting!! Wags! Kieffer

Bio Update 8/29/13: Kieffer is an 11 month old, 5.5 lb. adorable Yorkie. He will be 1 year old on 09/28/2013.

On 08/14/2013, Kieffer had surgery on his left leg. The femoral head was removed because it was deteriorating, and causing pain. Tomorrow, 08/30, he will have his sutures removed. Physical therapy will start that same day.

In 4 more weeks, Kieffer will have
x-rays of the right femoral head. Last x-rays showed it to be very deteriorated, this would mean the femoral head could be gone. This would be great news! Surgery would then, not be needed, because the issue would be resolved.

During his therapy and healing, scar tissue will start to develop, which will hold the leg in place.

Kieffer may or may not have a limp, or funny looking walk. He might have some slight pain, which pain meds will take care of. He's a trooper...& doesn't seem to show his discomfort. He loves to run and play with all the other dogs. He's a tough little guy!

Please read Kieffer's other bio's to know more about him.

Bio Update 7/19/13: Hi, Kieffer here! I'm a 5.2 lb., 10 month old, handsome little Yorkie boy. I want to let everyone know, that my first Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) is scheduled for Aug. 14th. My other leg will be later. After that, some therapy and I'll be ready for my Forever Home!

Hi, FM here! Kieffer is a wonderful little boy. He eats good, sleeps with us through the night, and is house trained. He loves his toys, and playing & cuddling with other dogs, and his person/persons.

His Forever Home must have another playful dog, and a person who works from home, is retired, or only works part-time. He does very good being left, but will cry when you first leave.

He's great with children, but because of his size, and the surgery he is having, the children in the home should be over 8 and experienced with a little guy like Kieffer. My grandson is 8, and they are great together.
Please also read his previous bio. I am now accepting applications for Kieffer.

Bio Update 6/11/13: Kieffer is a 5.5 pound, 9 month old Yorkie boy.

His surgery is scheduled for July 2, 2013. After, Kieffer will need 2 to 3 months of rehab therapy. Until he's had his surgery, and has been thru at least one month of therapy, I will Not know how much range of motion Kieffer will have with his legs.

For right now, Kieffer is Not available for adoption. Please, just until I know more, do not email me with questions. I will Update his bio, after he has been thru a good month of rehabilitation. Thank you for understanding...

Initial Bio 05/28/2013: Kieffer, previously Dylan, is a gorgeous little 8 month old, 5.5 lb. sweetie! His Birth Date is 09/07/2012. He's neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations for his age.

Kieffer loves to play fetch with squeaky toys, and with other dogs. He has separation anxiety, but I am working with him to resolve it. I know he is house trained, when someone is home. His previous owner works out of the home. But Kieffer is extremely smart, and is a watcher!

On 04/08/2013, Kieffer was diagnosed with aseptic necrosis of the femoral heads (and tentatively diagnosed with bilateral medial patellar luxation - grade 1/4 for the left knee, and grade 4/4 for the right knee). Consultation with surgeons confirm the diagnosis and a bilateral femoral head osteotomy (removable of a piece of bone) is recommended (and necessary as the dog is in pain).

The owners were unable to have the surgery and had a whole different outcome planned for Dylan, which would have been terribly sad. The Veterinary Dr. reached out to UYR, and the owners were given the opportunity to surrender him to us. Changing his name gives him a whole new start. June 10th is the consultation with the Orthopedic Surgeon. I will update after I know more.
