Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bear is a big beautiful creature, waiting for love, he has had a pretty tough life until now. Here is his story: Bear was originally an owner surrender at the senior age of 10 years. If you have ever seen a dog sink into a deep depression, you know it can just about break your heart. This was Bear. After a few weeks of no interest from potential families he had been attacked by another dog causing him to shut down completely. His leg had been hurt pretty badly and there was no money left in the animal control vet fund. Now Bear was not only depressed but needing medical attention. He had given up on life and made no effort to make eye contact with passer-bys. Soon after, he reached that fateful day that he was going to cross over the rainbow bridge. One of the volunteers witnessed a lady crouched down at Bear's kennel door. She was crying and couldn't speak. No words needed to pass through her mouth because the volunteer knew why this lady was crying. She too knew that black senior dogs, statistically do not make it out alive very often. After that moment, the volunteers and staff knew that they had to make a last ditch effort to save this forgotten soul. Pleas to save Bear's life were sent out all over TN and surrounding states. Thanks to Southern Roots Rescue, his prayers were finally answered. Donations were gathered to help with his vet care. Two foster homes stepped up; one for short-term and the other for long-term foster care. Today, bear is recovering in his temporary foster home after his injuries were addressed and his shots were given. The icing on the cake was that he was heart-worm negative too!"
