My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SPOT is a very special 3-yr-old blue tick coonhound mix whose people surrendered him reluctantly when their lives took an unexpected turn, and they had to move to Chicago. He now lives at a dog refuge facility with many other dogs. He is neutered, fully-vaccinated, heartworm negative and current on monthly flea, tick and heartworm preventives. He is house-trained, crate-trained and loves to walk on-leash (he sits by the coat rack and points to the leash). He knows how to use a doggie door (although it has to be a tall one). Spot will sit for a treat and will do almost anything for a MilkBone. He is a big boy, about 36 inches at the shoulder, weighing about 80 lb. He has a thick velour-like coat. We should have named him "Teddy" because he feels like a giant plush bear. Although his name seems like a common one (dubbed "Spot" because of the giant spot on his back), there is much about him that is "special". He was one of a large litter of pups dumped in a remote rural area with their momma in 2010. Spot is deaf but functions as well as hearing dogs in most ways. He just needs someone willing to communicate with him via hand signals. He knows signals for "sit" and "back/stay". He is gentle and slow-moving, extremely sweet and affectionate. He adores his people. He is initially shy with strangers but warms up once he knows a person is safe. He would likely not do well with young children who move quickly and might startle him, but he would do well with calmer, older children. After proper introductions, he plays well with other dogs and is non-aggressive toward cats. Spot would love to have a home where he does not have to share his human with so many other dogs, but he doesn't have to be an only dog. This is a courtesy posting. This dog is not affiliated with P.S. I Love You! Animal Rescue but is fostered by another party. For more information on this very dear boy, please contact Janel Miller at dogrefuge@gmail.com.
