Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Updated Bio 4/25/13: Contessa is a 10 year old 5.3 pound Yorkie girl; she is being fostered in Delray Beach, FL.
Tessie was surrendered by her owner who could no longer care for her, and when she came to her Foster Mom, she tested positive for heartworm disease. Foster mom worries about her because the treatments she is having are very dangerous, and …………… very expensive. After her treatments are completed, she will have a dental and spay.
On a brighter note, Tessie is an alpha dog and finds a way to get whatever she wants, which is mostly to sit with FM and get lots of attention. Her house- training was going very well, but since being put on prednisone, she drinks lots of water and is having accidents, uh-oh. She will get back to normal once her heartworm treatments are over and she no longer needs to take steroids.
Please say a prayer for Tessie that she will make it through her treatments and also please help United Yorkie Rescue pay for her medical treatment by donating. Bless all of you who have donated to Tessie so far and bless all of you who will help Tessie and other medically-needy foster dogs in the future.
Updated Bio 03/07/2013: Tessie is a cute little 10 year old 4.8 lb girlie who is being fostered in Delray Beach, Florida.
Tessie was surrendered by her owner who could no longer give her the attention and care she needed. Tessie came to us with heartworm disease and is now undergoing a lengthy, expensive treatment that is toxic, especially for such a tiny little girl.
Tessie came to her foster home with no housetraining skills, but after a long talk about being clean in the house as Foster Mom was cleaning her little accident about a week ago, she has not had any accidents since. She understood every word as she is very smart. After her heartworm treatment has been completed, she will still need to be spayed and have a dental before she is ready to go to her forever home. Tessie will not be ready to be adopted for several more months, but we are currently taking applications for her.
Foster mom said Miss Tessie loves a lap better than anything in the world. She would make a great only dog, even though there were 4 in her pack in her former home. She travels well in the car and walks well on leash. Tessie is a great little companion and her perfect home would be one in which she had at least one stay-at-home parent, perhaps a retired couple. PLEASE NOTE: Due to Tessie’s tiny size, she can only be adopted into an adult only home.
INITIAL BIO 02/22/13: Hello, my name is Contessa, Tessie for short. :) I am a 4 1/2 pound 9 year old yorkie girl who was surrendered by my owner because she could no longer give me the attention and care that I need. I am being fostered in Delray Beach, Florida. I went to the vet yesterday to have labwork drawn for my upcoming spay and dental. My test results showed that I am positive for heartworm. Sad face. This is a very dangerous condition for me. I have a heart murmur that we hope will get a little better when we get rid of my heartworm problem. My medical bills will just keep mounting until I am through with my treatment and then my spay and dental. I will not be adoptable until I am healthy again which may take a few months. Here is what Foster Mom Phyllis has to say.
Tessie loves her crate and thinks of it as her den. She spends most of her time in her crate as we need to keep her quiet so her heartworm issue can be helped. She is a definite lap dog and is only aggressive if some other dog approaches her when she is in her crate. It is hers alone and she has done a good job letting the other dogs in the house know. She is partially housetrained and we are working on that. She does like to do her business outside but does have an accident every once in a while. The bloodwork came back fine. Tessie will have an Xray done next week to determine the severity of her heartworm disease. We are already starting this difficult and expensive treatment and are hoping our loyal fans will help her out with her mounting bills. Tessie will keep you updated on her status. Thank you so much for reading and caring!
xoxo -Tessie and FM
