Emelia is a one-and-a-half year old Cattle Dog/Lab mix rescued from the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter. She may even have a bit of Shibu Inu in her. She weighs about 45 lbs. We actually think she is closer to age one. She still has puppy in her but it is not over-the-top. She will benefit from some training and supervision until she learns the house rule (though I would not call her a “chewer”). Emelia is a very affectionate dog who is friendly to all humans and all dogs, both large and small. She has a sweet, submissive, and sometimes playful nature. She is herding dog in her core personality with the goofy and friendly personality of a Lab. Though she does not nip my heels or mouth me, she bats at, and licks my feet to try and get attention but we are working on this. Emelia is fairly new to the rescue, but so far, so good. She is being crate-trained and doing well and sleeps quietly in her large wire crate throughout the night. She is house-trained but potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment.
Emelia is somewhat of a Velcro dog. She is not a dog that wants to be outside unless there is a reason for it, and then she wants to return inside to be near the humans. She is relatively calm in the house, and consistent with most of these herding types, they are called “Velcro dogs” in that they like to hang out in the same room as the humans. So when we’re talking about Emelia, we are not talking “yard dog.”
A cute thing to watch is Emelia running around the yard playing with Ashton, who is an 8 lb. Miniature Pinscher. Ashton darts around and Emelia chases him and then, Ashton hides under the car and taunts her. Emelia goes down in a low “play bow” wagging her tail, and waiting for Ashton to come out from under the car so she can chase him around again. It is nice to watch a larger dog playing so gently and happily with a smaller dog. Emelia’s best fit most likely would be with another dog to keep her company when the humans are away. I see her optimum fit with a male dog.
Emelia is spayed, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Emelia, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail.
