My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Angel is a 7 month old black and tan dapple smooth female. Her owners bought her as a tiny puppy when they were already facing serious health and financial issues. Things rapidly got worse for them, and as a result Angel received no vet care because they could not afford it. Because of their health issues, Angel rarely was taken outside the one bedroom apartment. As a result, she never learned to potty outside. She was terrified of even the most ordinary of sounds--birds singing, car doors shutting, people walking by, etc.

We have Angel on a potty schedule, and she is making great progress. However, it will take some time for her to overcome her poor start in life. We are grateful that the owners at least realized they were not able to provide Angel's basic needs, and contacted our rescue group for help.

Angel is starting to come out of her shell in her foster home, with patience, and work using the clicker training approach. Because Angel missed out on the critical window of puppy socialization, it will take some time for her to gain those skills. We are confident she will, and are committed to keeping her in the rescue program until she makes significant advances as we do not believe in placing dogs until their health and behavioral needs are fully met. Angel is sweet and loving and will continue to blossom as she has training and exposure to normal, every day activities.
