Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Update 6/18- Jax is now at DHA (Delaware Humane) if you are interested in him. This was his initial write-up:
Jax is an extremely sweet and affectionate senior wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier (approx. 10 yo) weighing 20 pounds who needs to be rehomed. His current family, a couple who has had him since he was 4 years old, need to rehome him because Jax has been showing signs of non-aggressive jealousy over having to share their attention with a new baby (he pees on the baby and the baby’s things--repeatedly!)
In the 6 years he has been with this couple, Jax has never been anything but a loving playful dog enjoying other people, adults and children, and dogs. (He is afraid of cats, though.) Jax loves to walk and is a champion on the leash. He does not chase small animals or chew things (except out of stress when left alone—see below). He is completely housetrained only peeing inside when stressed (see separation anxiety below) or needing to make a point to his parents regarding the baby.
At home, Jax is a very mild pet and does not typically get into trouble. He loves to follow you around and watch what you are doing then nap at your feet (or side if you will let him) as soon as you sit down. He is not a whiner but will bark when left alone (see separation anxiety below) or at the doorbell but otherwise is quiet. Jax knows many commands (sit, lay, up, down, stay, out of the kitchen) and will put on a show performing one command after another for any treat.
We are certain that he would do well in a family with older children—the problem started when, after six years, he was no longer the only child. In fact, he did well when he spent a year and a half with his mom’s sister and her family when they were on secondment out of the country. He had two little girls aged under 10 who doted on, laid on him, dressed him up in play clothes and he thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Jax suffers from separation anxiety and needs to have a safe place to be left alone. He should never be left loose in the house by himself as he will chew or relieve himself out of stress. His ideal home would be a couple or family with at least one person who works from home.
Jax is a great dog who needs someone who can love him for his good points and accept his unintentional faults.
Jax is up-to-date on shots, is neutered, and is on heartworm preventatives. What Jax wants more than anything is to be with his people! He likes to walk and eat and hang out. While at home, he is very relaxed and happy just to follow his mom around the house. He is a great dog and extremely affectionate. Jax does not chew or bark unnecessarily, and is housetrained except for the separation anxiety issues.
