My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birthdate: 6/10/12

Gender: Male, neutered

Breed: Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix)

Captain came with his name, but if we had to name him, it would have been Taz. It’s not because he’s crazy….. although he does have a mischievous streak….. but because of a very unique, Tazmanian devil skill he has.

He spins.

Most dogs chase their tail, but Captain takes it a step further.

Inside the Dog Room, we have an elevated bed with a springy cover. This is Captain’s favorite bed because it’s just bouncy enough for him to use it as a trampoline. He gets in the middle, flops down on his side and spins 100 miles an hour around in a circle, tongue hanging out of his mouth in pure joy.

It’s hilarious.

Of course he refuses to do it whenever we happen to have a camera handy, but one day, we’ll catch it on film.

Captain is a fun-loving dog who wants to play with everyone. He shares the Dog Playroom right now with five other dogs, ranging from a tiny 12-pound dachshund mix…. all the way up to a 55-pound Pitbull mix. And everyone is his playmate. He runs, tugs on toys and wrestles with all of them.

Captain is also a big fan of kids…. especially kids willing to throw the tennis ball for him.

Captain is a large Puggle, weighing in at 28 pounds full grown. He’s rather chunky for his size, although it’s certainly not for lack of exercise. He was turned over to New Lease on Life by his owners who unfortunately got him without realizing just how much effort needs to be put into training a dog. They had never had a dog before, and when they realized having a new pup is like adding another kid to the three kids they already had….. they decided they didn’t have the time.

Captain has a foundation in housebreaking, but his training was never consistent, so he is not fully housebroken. With a little time and consistency, we expect him to pick up the habit without a problem. We’ll be happy to give you some pointers to get you off on the right foot.

You can meet Captain at the shelter during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5 to 8pm, or call 330-397-8270 to schedule an appt to meet him at another time or on another day. He has already been neutered, heartworm tested, fully vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated, so he’s ready to join a new family right away.
