Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Emma is a young, very sweet and happy girl (our best guess is around a year and a half) who would love nothing more than a home of her own. Her unique markings are similar to a fawn/white boxer, while her body type (size, ears, eyes) and posture during play and walks are reminiscent of a hound-type dog.
She has been staying at a rehabilitation and training facility in Cleveland (High Drive Pups) since June of this year, and has made tremendous process in her social skills. She used to be very shy around new people (men in particular) but with proper socialization she’s really come out of her shell and is now eager to make new friends. Once she trusts you, she loves to lean against your leg to be petted, and roll over for belly rubs!
She has also been started in marker training (similar to clicker training) and knows “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “come,” walks well on a leash, and offers polite behaviors (sitting) for petting and walking through doorways. She is one smart cookie (and very food motivated as well) so she is fast to learn tricks (her current repertoire include shake paw, target a hand with her nose, target a touchpad with her foot as well as sitting-pretty with her front feet on a touchpad).
Emma is relatively high energy but she does have a nice off-switch around the house. She loves toys and could play ball in the yard with her "person" for hours! Once indoors, she does know how to settle down and relax, so she would be a great match for an active family. At around 60-lbs, she would make a perfect-sized jogging companion!
Her new family would have to understand a bit about Emma’s history as well. Prior to coming to our rescue, life had not been good to this girl. She was tied to a tree and left to starve by her previous owners. The people who saved her were not able to keep her, so they brought her over to the Mahoning County Dog Pound, where she spent the next few months of her life. She was highly anxious in the pound environment and she literally bounced off the walls trying to burn nervous energy. She was severely undersocialized, likely abused as well, most new people terrified her and it was difficult to gain her trust. A few special volunteers took her under their wing and started working with her, gained her trust. They brought her over to us, sponsored her stay at the rehabilitation facility, and come to see and spend time with her whenever they got a chance. Her complete transformation since her “pound days” brings tears to their eyes each time they visit. She is a very special girl and deserves a very special family to appreciate her, love her, continue her training and continue to teach her about the good in the world. She will give everything she has in return.
While she would do best as an only dog, she does enjoy playing with other dogs. With slow an proper introduction and initial supervision, she would make an excellent playmate for another young, high energy pup.
Emma is spayed, up to date with her shots, and crate trained. Her adoption comes with a FREE private training session at the High Drive Pups training facility (West Side of Cleveland, http://highdrivepups.com), and, if the new family is interested in advancing her obedience skills, affordable follow-up lesson plans.
