Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Libby is a 4 year old, Siberian husky/cattle dog mix. Sadly, she was surrendered to a local shelter when her previous family was forced to move and could not take her with them. During her vet check, the shelter noted that Libby had several bad teeth that required immediate removal. The shelter was unable to cover the cost of Libby’s dental work and contacted Grand River All Breed Rescue for help. GRAB stepped in and accepted this sweet girl into their foster and adoption program, covering the cost of the dental work that she required.
Libby is a good natured and unique looking dog. At four years old, she has a mature personality and has long outgrown any puppy and adolescent behaviours of mouthing, jumping, and chewing. She is calm and well-behaved in the house and is fully house trained. She loves to play with squeaky toys and balls and is happy to play by herself or with a human friend. In her previous home, Libby did not spend a lot of time with other dogs. However, she seems to really enjoy the company of her new foster dog sister and will initiate playtime with her.
Because she hasn’t spent a lot of time around other dogs, Libby doesn’t always know how to play nicely and can be a bit bossy with new dogs. She seems to be fine with calmer, submissive dogs, but can be a bit snarky and try to show dominance with “in your face” type dogs. This is a very common problem in under socialized cattle dogs, who have naturally dominant personalities, and Libby will need to work on developing proper doggy social skills. Aside from a bit of pulling, Libby walks very well on leash and responds well to correction and is not at all unmanageable with just a flat collar. Riding in the car is a new experience for her, so she is still getting used to the motion of the vehicle and does get a bit stressed. This behaviour will likely disappear once she gets more comfortable with regular car trips. At a whopping 31.5 kg (70 pounds), Libby is currently overweight and her foster mom has her on a new diet and exercise regime to help her slim down. She is a medium-framed dog and once at a healthy bodyweight will have compact, muscular body typical of her two breed mixes.
Libby can be reserved at first with new people, but once she warms up she is a sweet and gentle girl who loves to snuggle. She is a versatile dog that would be a great addition to any caring family. She was raised in a family with small children and would be fine going to a new home with respectful kids to give her lots of cuddles and throw the ball for her. She was cat tested at the shelter and showed no reaction. With a slow introduction, she would likely be fine in a home with cats.
Libby is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. Her adoption donation is $375. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. Please fill out an application at our website: www.grandriverallbreedrescue.ca.
