My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Patton was either abandoned or escaped from a yard or a chain. He was not allowed inside. He was wandering for some time without proper food or care. He was scared of everyone and ducked away when we tried to pet him. (He no longer does this.) He weighed 71 lbs. He had a horrible body order for about 2 weeks after we picked him up and broke out with mange. We have been feeding him high protein “Evo” dog food to help his bones and muscles regenerate and grown strong. He eats three level scoops every night. He loves Mother Hubbard treats and plays with toys. We treated his heartworms and mange and introduced him to the inside of a house. He is still a bit frightened of the dishwasher, but TV’s, vacuums, telephones, doorbells, running water, washer/dryers stoves and refrigerators are all common to him now. One thing we did do when we first got him, was we put him on a short, 2 foot leash and kept him close to us for several weeks. We would reach out and pet him every few minutes to get him used to good touch and being close to people.

Name: Patton
Age: Estimated 4 years old
Gender: Male
Weight: 100 lbs.
Mix/Purebred: Purebred
Housetrained: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Heartworm Negative/Positive: Negative
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Microchipped: Yes
Good with other dogs: Patton lives with 2 female, smaller dogs and could be good with larger female dogs but we are assessing him with males.
Good with cats: Yes, but will have to be tested with potential adopters
Good with children: 10+

Patton uses the doggie door, knows “sit, down, and shake”. He is crate trained now as well. He does need some leash work and is okay around kids 10 and older, but gets worried and nervous around the younger kids. He has gained 30 lbs. since we picked him up and his very sweet-natured. He is easily bonded to people and follows them everywhere around the house. He comes when we call him. He runs directly to the truck, sits and waits for us to open the door so he can go for a ride. He doesn’t run off, enjoys being with his person. He rides well in the truck and enjoys going places. He is very sweet natured, but still shy of strangers. He warms up faster to females than males. He gets along with other dogs as well as cats and is ready to play with them if they will let him. He loves cat food.

Patton has big brown eyes and loves sitting or lying close to you while you read or watch TV. He will come up and bump your hand with his head when he needs a pet or an ear scratch. He will keep Mr. Squirrel out of the bird feeder and enjoys a good run.

He came to us terribly neglected and underweight with skin issues and heartworms. We treated everything and he is in good health now. The vet says he does have some adult heartworms left from the treatment, but those should die off in the next year and he should be fine as long as heartworm preventative is administered on schedule. He shows no signs of shortness of breath, or weakness and looks gorgeous! He has been under excellent vet care since he first came to us and he is now ready to be adopted. He is up on all vaccinations and is already neutered. He needs owners who are active and will treat him like a family member.
