Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Sierra.
Personality: During the week that we've had her, she has shown herself to be a very enthusiastic dog who is eager to please. There's lots of puppy energy but she is completely house-trained and uses the dog door without issue. She chewed on one of our daughter's stuffed animals that was left on the floor, but nothing else other than bonafide dog toys and rawhides. She loves to lean into you for love and will hop right up on the couch or bed if you let her. I think that once she settles into life at our house and becomes more secure with her place in the household, she would be a great addition. It has only been a week and each day has been a little easier with her as she gets used to us and our routines.
Cats and other dogs: She has learned to leave the cat alone (she sniffed him a little too closely and got a claw to the nose). She is intrigued by our cats but has not chased them or showed them any aggression. She has become good buddies with our 2 year old Husky mix and the two love to wrestle and chase each other. Sierra gets jealous when we pet our dog and tries to butt in a little. She really just wants to get in on the love and is not aggressive about it, never growls or anything. She pretty much ignores our 15 year old Husky who is blind and deaf and a bit confused.
Kids: She has been very gentle with our 2 year old (who is fearless) and lets her pet her without issue. Our daughter can eat and play around Sierra without incident. Sierra is a very happy girl and often wags with her entire body and could easily bump into or knock down a little person though. She has never growled or shown any aggression towards our daughter.
Food aggression: As far as food goes, she is a voracious eater but doesn't mind when I put my hand in her dish or touch her face while she is wolfing down her food.
Obedience/Training: As far as obedience goes, she knows sit, lie down, shake, and stop. She jumps up on occasion when she is excited but settles down when you tell her "down." She pulls on leash and can be quite powerful, but she also stops when you tell her to. She definitely will continue to need work on leash manners. Something tells me she wasn't walked on leash much prior to us taking her. She has slipped her collar on one occasion with us when she was spooked by some people skiing on the sidewalk. When she runs, she goes far and fast. It is amazing to watch her go, just not in downtown Anchorage! She will be a great mountain hiking dog. We don't know her well enough to try letting her off-leash at the dog park yet (it took our own dogs months to earn that privilege). She definitely needs at least one good walk (45-60 min) each day and more would be appreciated. She would be great with someone who gets out to ski, bike, run, or hike regularly.
