Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Written by current owner -
Maxwell is a 4 year old chihuahua mix who was adopted from the Seattle Humane Society two years ago. He is spayed, up to date on all his vaccinations, house-trained, and has a micro-chip. He weighs about 12 pounds and has no health problems. His greatest love is any type of food, followed by belly rubs and sun. He also loves to cuddle and curl up to sleep under blankets. He can run really fast!
Max is not great with men, especially tall ones with deep voices; he may have been abused in the past. In general, he is extremely loving with people he trusts, but will take a little time to trust strangers. He has shown aggression towards people and animals who approach him too quickly. We have been working on this by introducing him much more slowly. For example, when guests come over, he is usually tied to the back door and ignored while he watches for about half an hour. Then, while guests are seated and avoiding abrupt movements, he is allowed to come off and sniff around. Treats help and he usually does well after this. New dogs in controlled settings are usually ok unless he feels threatened; dog parks are too anxiety-provoking for him. We have not exposed him to kids although the Humane Society reported that he did well with them in the past.
Max is a very smart dog (sometimes too smart for his own good!) and has come a long ways in the past two years. He is loyal, but also protective. We hope he will be able to find a loving home with owners who can recognize how sweet he is and help him continue to overcome his fears in this big, scary world!
