My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Breckin the beautiful! This life-loving 1 year old flashy female BC is overflowing with happiness and good vibes – gorgeous both inside and out!! Rescued from an Idaho shelter, lively and charming Breckin is nothing if not a delight be around. She’s full of energy, love, and potential - and can’t wait to find a family to call her own!

Breckin is a pretty confident little lassie, and is eager to engage. Humans are nothing if not good news to this girl – Breckin enjoys everyone she meets! She is very polite and a bit reserved when she initially meets new friends, but with just a tiny bit of encouragement – all it takes is a smile in her direction - she falls all over herself and her new found pal! This means kids, too - she is so pretty and fluffy that kids are drawn to her…she, in turn, adores them and is very kind and patient with even the smallest child. For Breckin, a poke in the eye or a pulled ear is a small price for her to pay if it means she gets to spend some time with kids. Breck especially LOVES her people and just wants to be with them, no matter what they are up to! Breckin is perhaps even more at home in the company of other canines, and is great with other dogs. If they are playful – all the better! Breck enjoys a good romp with other dogs and is very good about following the ‘rules’ of the dog world - she reads other dogs extremely well. Although she can be herdy with other dogs, she is great with cats, great with other dogs, and great with horses. She is also incredibly great with wildlife that she sees while out hiking – she looks at them, is very aware they are there, but has no interest in a chase! Gotta love that!!

Sunny Breckin is the kind of girl who is up for any adventure, and she’s a higher energy girl who will need a good dose of physical exercise daily. She loves a good run and is a great running buddy, loves a good hike and is awesome off leash – and once her needs have been met, she also loves soaking up the sunshine and is a great snuggle buddy! She is only a year old, but she is wise and mature beyond her years. While she has a playful attitude (every now then the puppy in her comes out and then it is “game on”) she is very mellow in the house and in new situations. She is still learning about toys and fetching, but she knows all about wrestling and having a good time one-on-one with her people. We think she would be a great family dog…but Breckin also has the makings of an incredible therapy dog, obedience dog, or agility partner. We truly think she would be good at anything she could do with her people

No shocker that this wonder girl is a smarty pants, too. Breck walks well on a leash, knows the basics (sit, down, come) and is very willing and happy learn new things. Her recall is amazing…her fosters report, “I don’t think we have ever called her when she didn’t immediately come running to us with a big smile on her face! The only time she is not quite as quick to respond is when you tell her to go outside in the cold and wind – she is too smart for that! She comes, but it is so slow and sad that it is hard to hold firm on your thought that it may be time to go outside…” Fortunately, it doesn’t matter because Breck is completely house trained and she knows when it is time to go out, so no worries there. She is also crate trained and likes the security of her crate when she is left for any period of time. Breckin respects boundaries and does not challenge the 4’ fence at her foster home. She really does not want to go, or be, anywhere her people are not! Like many confident, bright dogs, Breck needs a home who will establish boundaries and rules, where she can relax and not worry about being ‘in charge of the world.’ She is very content to be a loving companion, but if nobody else is taking charge she feels obligated to do it. Breck will thrive with adopters who will provide boundaries, continue with her training, and also continue with her exposure to all the great things the world has to offer – she is not quite as confident as she could be out and about, but with additional socializing, Breck’s confidence will grow.

Breck was originally rescued from an Idaho shelter where she was surrendered due to “separation anxiety”, or perhaps really just boredom, when left home alone….Her foster family has found that with a good chunk of exercise daily, Breckin does just fine left alone for a couple of hours. More than that is not ideal, however, so she will do best in a household where she does not have to be left all day alone. Another dog for company, and as a playmate, will also be good for Breckin.

All in all, Breckin is a phenomenal girl who is sure to make an outstanding companion to some lucky adopter. If you are looking for a fabulous young Border Collie to share life, love, laughs, and all kinds of adventure, Breck may be the one for you.

Breckin is spayed, fully vetted, and living in a loving foster home near Salt Lake City, UT.
