Roo – Roo – Rooster! Big coat, big bones, big heart. That’s Rupert aka Rooster a 5 year old, golden red merle Australian Shepherd. A perfect gentleman, very affectionate, Velcro, sweet. But he likes his toys, too!
At 57 pounds, he’s a big boy and he has a really big coat to go with it. This boy has looping golden curls on his sholders. His right eye is blue with a wee bit of amber marbling and his left eye is amber. He has a very sweet habit of picking up his right front paw and holding it at an angle across him when he wants something. He doesn’t seem to be wanting to shake. It’s almost more like a salute. Looks like he was taught “high five,” too, because he will raise his front paws on command. He walks very nicely on a leash.
Rupert was rescued from a shelter in Kentucky. He appears to have been well cared for in his former home. This boy has been to the spa and was a perfect gentleman there. He appears to have been groomed, nails trimmed, paws trimmed, blown dry, etc. in a previous life. Rupert was very comfortable with the entire process.
Rooster aka Rupert unfortunately had heartworms when he came into our rescue program but has successfully completed his treatment. He is running with the other dogs again and will not require any more treatment other than a heartworm test in August. This guy is otherwise healthy, having had all of his vaccinations and been neutered. He should lead a full, normal and healthy life.
He is housetrained and has not had any accidents since he came to his foster home several months ago. Rooster gets along well with the two males and one female dogs in his foster home. He has not been tested with cats but we can test him if his future home will have cats.
Rooster is basically just a very sweet, well-adjusted, happy dog. He loves his people, playing with toys (which he will also do by himself), playing with the other dogs, running outside and being petted, and petted, and petted. He is a low to medium energy dog and other than occasionally being a little pushy when another dog is being petted, has no issues at all. This boy also has no issues with men and is quite attached to his foster dad.
Rooster would be happy in a family, with a couple or with an individual. He really enjoys the company of other dog. This guy has a playful personality and while he doesn’t require nonstop exercise, he would enjoy being active, playing. His ideal home would have another dog for him to have as a companion and playmate. He would be fine with children, too.
Rupert is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. He is being fostered in Henderson, KY. If you are interested in Rupert, you may apply to adopt him by filling out the
