Whoa mama! Check out this brother/sister pair that we snagged on our latest trip to Animal Care and Control. We spotted Sabrina in the pavilion first, and upon careful examination of her inventory card it was revealed that she'd been given up with her brother. We combed through the pavilion until we were able to find Fernando, and once both dogs were tested (and passed!) we found that we couldn't leave them behind. NLOL has had success with placing pairs of dogs in the past, even of the extra-large variety (Oso and Grizzly in particular!), so we figured we'd give these two a shot to stay together. Potential adopters will soon see the bond that these dogs share and why we couldn't let them possibly be adopted into separate homes. When Fernando and Sabrina were reunited at ACC, they jumped all over each other, rubbed faces, and were elated to be back together again. When they are off-leash together, it's a sight to see!
Both dogs are sizable - Sabrina is the chunky one at 100.9 lbs (she could stand to lose some weight) and Fernando is the skinny one at 78 lbs. Our theory is that Sabrina would bully Fernando away from the food bowl! In the picture of them together, Fernando is the shorter haired dog on the left and Sabrina is the longer haired dog on the right. Although they are large dogs, both dogs are very well-behaved on leash and both readily crate up when it's time to eat and go to sleep. They do not seem to have much of a prey drive, so they may be cat-friendly. We haven't had them together around many other dogs but they have interacted well with the few they've met. Both dogs are far more interested in people - Fernando loves to lean against your legs for pets and Sabrina is perfecting her cat imitation by weaving in and out of our volunteers' legs. (She doesn't seem to understand that cats don't weigh 100 lbs!)
At this time we are only seeking a home where both dogs are welcome due to the fact that they are so attached to each other. If you have any questions or would like to meet, foster, or adopt this dynamic duo, please contact us today!
