Poor sweet Mr. Magoo! He was dumped off at a high kill shelter in York County, South Carolina after his owner passed away from cancer. He is at least 14 years old and there he was- on death row awaiting his euthanasia date on Tuesday Feb. 26th. I found someone to pull him and get him to safety on the 23rd. He was 3 days from dying. We did not know anything at the time about him other than he is frail, elderly, arthritic and nearly blind. His toenails were very overgrown and his ears needed a good cleaning. Mr. Magoo's Rescue lady took him into the local PetsMart for a new collar, and an employee recognized him! She said he is in much worse shape but that his owner had passed away a few months before. Magoo's human dad always brought him in to the store to visit and do a little shopping, but mainly he came to socialize and to be able to spend time out with his beloved companion. We assume after he passed, perhaps some family took in Magoo for a bit, but once he started needing some care like a nail trim, ear cleaning...well, they took him to the shelter and walked away, literally sentencing him to certain death, without rescue. You see, at his age, that shelter will not even offer them for adoption! He would not have even been seen by the public! Thank God he was posted to rescue lists!
Mr Magoo will be available as a "permanent foster". If you would like to give an old fella a warm home with lots of love and attention, you see he LOVES to be with people and to be held and carried everywhere!) perhaps you would like to learn more about Mr. Magoo. We will be moving him to KS as soon as he is able to travel and arrangements can be made. We will prefer a home for him in the Topeka, KS or surrounding area.
