Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Update: 9/4 : Post amputation, Alice acts like a different dog. Very friendly. Very confident. She'll be an awesome family member. She's just a bit of a thing at 30 lbs. and we don't think she'll get much bigger than 45 lbs or less.
This precious baby girl is just 7 months old and has already been through so much. Alice is one of the many dogs who has come to us as a hit and run. She was found, lying on the side of the road, whimpering in pain. Whoever had hit her, had left her to die, if you can believe that someone could be so very cruel.
Lucky for Alice, someone saw her and called the pound to come pick her up. They called us and the rest is history. Alice was rushed to our vet clinic where she was immediately X-rayed. Alice was diagnosed with multiple fractures and it was decided that her best treatment option was a leg amputation.
Alice had her surgery on 8/28; these p hotos were taken this past weekend, about 2-3 days after surgery and if they don't tell you something about this special lady, nothing will. She gives new meaning to the words like "resilient" and "brave." When she arrived to the vet clinic, she was shaking because she was in so much pain and shock, but she allowed the vets to do what they had to do without objection. She has already taken her first steps and is quickly acclimating to life as a three-legged dog. As a member of the "people" medical profession, her progress is awe-inspiring.
Alice is happy to be alive, to have a warm blanket to sleep on, and regular food and water. Even losing her leg has not hindered her remarkable spirit. We are desperate to show her how much more we have to give her. This precious girl deserves a family that will cherish her and show her that her bravery and spirit must be rewarded. She is an inspiration to us all!
is currently boarding at our partner vet clinic in Memphis, TN. We are comprised of a small group of volunteers from Delaware, New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.
For our dogs that are out of state, we try to promote adoptions based on trust that we will send you the most wonderful dog for you home; our foster situation is quite limited and thus it’s difficult for us to bring dogs here prior to finding a committed, forever home. We realize that adopting a dog sight unseen may seem like a stressful situation, but we truly do our very best to ensure that we make the best matches for our very special dogs and their very special families.
