Here's what the humans have to say about me:
All HSWA dogs are in foster homes and need an appointment to be seen. Please call 205-554-0011 or email humaneswa@yahoo.com to request an appointment to see the dog/puppy and to check availability. Before choosing a pet, we recommend meeting the pet or asking questions first.
This handsome young fellow is Amos, an 10-month-old (as of 2/13) male Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. He has the black face and head like a German Shepherd and the beautiful golden red coat of a Retriever. Amos weighs about 40 pounds, and is all legs! He should get to be around 60 pounds when full-grown. He is a very sweet, loving and playful puppy!! And as with all puppies, he will need training to help him grow into a well-mannered adult dog.
Amos loves to play with other dogs, but he does not like cats. He is still mouthy and very jumpy, so better to go to a family where the kids are older than 12. He will require a fenced-in yard, since he needs the exercise and is too big/energetic for an apartment. Amos is doing very well with his crate training. He is up to date on his vet care, neutered and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. What a wonderful combination of great dog breeds -- you can't go wrong with this guy!
Update from Foster Family:
"Amos is adapting wonderfully to all the chaos that surrounds him. For a puppy he is very well behaved. He loves his crate. If we get on to him about something he immediately goes to his crate and hides—it is his safe zone. He is 100% crate trained and is doing very well on house training. Like all puppies he is mouthy but as long as he has plenty of toys and bones to chew on he leaves our things and the furniture alone. Right now his favorite thing to chew on is our fire wood! Luckily, he has found plenty stacked up beside the fireplace and has not attempted to pull any out that was burning!!! He is a delight and will be an EXCELLENT addition for a lucky family!"
