Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Inochi (ee-nO-chee), which means "life (force)" in Japanese, is a 6 year old pure bred Red male Shiba Inu that came to us from the puppy mill auction in Nebraska. Before coming to rescue Inochi had never once worn a collar or leash, walked on grass, lived in a house, much less had a yard to roam about in, or know human affection. Inochi has adjusted very well and very quickly to living with people and is ready to find his forever home.
Inochi is super affectionate with people, both men and women. We do not yet know how he would do with young children but he doesn't seem nearly as skittish as many other Shibas we have seen come out of mills so he may do just fine. He is good with other dogs and also seems to do well with cats. He is trying to play with the resident Shiba but she is not interested, but it seems he would enjoy a mild to moderate playmate if possible in his forever home.
Inochi is doing well with crate training and potty training. He does fine with chain link or wire type fencing and does not try to climb or dig to escape. He wasn't sure about walking on leash when first in rescue and would turn and bite at the leash but he is greatly improving. He really enjoys following the resident Shiba in his foster home on walks so it may be beneficial if there is another dog in the home for him to learn the ropes from.
Recommended reading for Inochi would be How to Behave So Your Dog Behaves by Dr. Sophia Yin.
Inochi's adoption fee is $275.00 which includes his neuter, surgical dental, distemper vaccination, microchip and professional 6 week training course at an approved location near the adopter's home.
