Update 01/11/13: Hi all, Sammie here. This has been a bummer of a week for me. First, my foster parents took me to see the surgeon; he pokes and pulls on my right leg, only to tell me I may never be able to use it again. He has given me four more weeks to get it working. I am doing my best ~ I’ll show him, but it is hard. I am able to walk quite well on three legs, I even got up two steps on the patio this afternoon. Then today, we went to another vet; they thought it necessary to poke me three more times. When we left that vet, he said something about everything that is supposed to be negative was......they said that was good. I don’t know, but I am tired of getting stuck. We got home and foster dad gave me a little treat, something he called heartworm meds. I guess I get 4 more weeks before I have to go back to the surgeon to check out my leg. Now I am going to take a well deserved nap. Thank you again to all you wonderful folks who have donated towards my care - they tell me its over $5,000, and that's a whole lotta money!!
Update 01/04/13: Sammie is only 2 years old and weighs 5 tiny lbs; he is being fostered in Mount Pleasant, SC. Sammie came into UYR with severe pelvic injuries from being hit by a car. After his major surgery, Sammie continues to improve each day.
Sammie has had a rough couple of weeks, although he is progressing quite well. He is walking only using his left rear leg. The right side seems to be getting stronger, but he is unable to put any weight on it. Today he made a big move by going up a very small step. (3 inches) It was a tough climb but he was proud of himself afterwards. Next week he goes back to the surgeon to get checked again. Stay tuned for an update after his appointment to see how Sammie is doing.

UPDATED BIO 12/28/2012: Sammie is only 2 years old and weighs 5 tiny lbs; he is being fostered in Mount Pleasant, SC. Sammie came into UYR with severe pelvic injuries from being hit by a car. After his major surgery, Sammie continues to improve each day. He has had his staples removed and for the first time since he came into rescue, he moved his right leg and is now standing on his left leg ~ yeah! He is moving all over his puppy playpen, and cries when he wants to get out. Sammie emptied his bladder by himself for the first time today. So, today has been a big day for Sammie and we are all so very happy that he is improving. Thanks to all the wonderful supporters who donated towards his very expensive surgery and said lots of puppy prayers for a full recovery. Sammie’s foster parents are spoiling him and giving him lots of snuggling time. Please stay tuned to read about Sammie’s continued progress……………

INITIAL BIO 12/21/2012: Please help us help Sammie! Sammie's injuries are extensive, and the estimate is over $5000. We are praying for a miracle. The damage to his pelvis was severe, but the nerves appear to be intact. Only one of his rear legs appears to have suffered nerve damage, but the vet believes with surgery to repair the pelvis that this may also be relieved. Sammie is 5 lbs and is only 2 years old. It is not his fault he was run over by a car (yes, he was run over by a slow moving car). We are asking all our FB friends to please help us spread the word about sweet Sammie. If all of our friends donated just $1, we could reach our goal. Thank you so much for caring about these poor little guys who are counting on us.
