Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hey there, I'm Rebel the beagle! You are going to love me, I just know it. First of all, just look at me! I am very pretty girl with such a sweet beagle face and lovely brown and black coloring. Second, I am calm, easy and quiet (except when the mail carrier approaches - I make sure he or she knows I am inside supervising their delivery). I am 9 years young, and I definitely live up to the "young"part! I am perky, playful and very agile. You may notice that I have longer legs than some beagles and am unusually slender - that just means I can jump up on things easily. However, I am well behaved and only look for food or my one vice which is lip balm. I really love that stuff and I can find it even deep down inside your purse! Yummy. I also like to stick my nose into the refrigerator when you open the door. Otherwise, while I like to be in the kitchen and to watch you eat, I don't actually beg for food, I just use my standard-issue pleading beagle brown eyes and head tilt to work my magic. So how did I end up here? Well, there was a divorce in my former family and somehow I ended up with the short end of the stick. Things were looking pretty grim because I was in a very rural area of western Illinois at a pound with only has eight slots for dogs, and due to my "life experience" of being older, I was apparently at the front of the line for something bad. When Young At Heart heard about me and the nice shelter people assured them I was a sweetheart worth saving, I perked right up, sensing that better things were coming my way! You'll have to see the adorable trick I know -I sit and do a great "Paw" for treats, and I'm ambidextrous! I can high five with either paw! I have no problem with you wiping my paws of mud or snow. Speaking of snow, I don't mind it at all. I am house trained and can be left loose while you're away without crate or confinement. I am very good in the car. On walks I do prefer to keep a pretty fast pace; in fact, I'd be happy to do an all-out run for a few blocks if you're willing. I get along great with my three dog siblings here in my foster home. I haven't seen a cat lately but I'd be willing to try to live with one or more.
I do need to mention that I can be coy and shy with new people. I don't panic or anything, I just step back and may eye you warily for a while. Once I know you, I'm all over you for attention, but I might not run up to you the first time you meet me. Please don't take it too personally - I just like to have time to observe before I commit my kisses.
Overall, I'm a healthy girl. Although I tested positive for Lyme, I show no symptoms at all and am finishing up a round of antibiotics for it just in case. In a few days I'll have a hernia/lump removed from my underside (it's just in a bad spot that will annoy me if not removed), then I'll be ready to adopt you as my new forever home!
