Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Bourre' (it's French with the e having an "a" sound). Bourre was brought into the program on special circumstances. Her former owner has this to say about her beloved Pitbull:
Bourre, a appx. 6-7 year old Pit Bull mix, was originally a rescue from Anchorage Animal Care & Control. She had come to AAC as a victim of dog fighting. A good Samaritan had picked her up off of the streets; she had been torn up pretty good ...and needed medical assistance. The good Samaritan took her to VCA East who, after having no luck finding her owner, treated her, spayed her, and transported her to AAC to be adopted out. She had been there for two months before her previous owner found her, just cowering in the back of her kennel. It was love at first sniff and they drove back the next morning to pick her up. That was back in 2009.
Since then, Bourre has become a well-integrated, much-loved part of her family. She gets along with most dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, ferrets, mice, and any other creature you place her with. Her only short coming with other dogs is fear aggression with other Pit Bulls (left over from being used as a bait dog) and her tendency to dominate other large-breed dogs. She is excellent with smaller dogs, but has to be watched occasionally with other large-breeds.
At any given moment Bourre can be found on the couch snuggled UNDER a blanket, or cuddled up next to one of the cats. She is a couch-potato in the house. Outside she can be hyper on occasion and tends to play hard! She still needs to learn how to socialize properly with other dogs and she will need to go to a good home with a firm understanding of the pitbull breed and how to properly socialize them. She would be wonderful in a home with adults older/teenage children, but would be too much for a small child to handle as she has never really been around them. Also, her fear of men makes her an ideal woman's dog; it takes her a long time to warm up to men and boys. She does fine as long as the men around her are nice and calm and speak softly to her and will be able to show her that she is not going to get hurt any more.
She has no known health problems, is already spayed, micro chipped and to the best of my knowledge is up to date on vaccines (I believe her rabies vaccine is due in October, but it might have been due last October so a booster probably wouldn't hurt.)
Bourre is always ready to snuggle and give kisses to the person or persons she loves. It breaks our hearts that our landlord has forced us to re-home her. Our sincerest hope is to find this wonderful dog a forever home that can love her as much as we do.
If you would like to meet Bourre or have any questions as to whether she is a good fit for your family, please call Kristie: 317-2883. Prior breed experience and a home inspection/visit will be required before adoption can be finalized. Sorry, we cannot adopt out to military families living on base as Pitbulls are prohibited.
