My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammy is a male neutered Labrador Retriever/Pit mix who weighs aprx 55-60 lbs & is around 2yrs.He's up to date with vaccines & heartworm negative. He came to Stray Haven (a home-based rescue where animals live in the family home) as an owner surrender after spending time alone on a busy road under a car during an extremely hot day. Sammy is very affectionate with his human companions & loves to play. He gets along great with other dogs & loves being with them. His canine playmates at Stray Haven consist of: Dachshund; Pomeranian; Beagles; Pit's; Walker Hounds and young puppies. He's gentle while playing with younger, smaller dogs & throws his weight engaging with those basically his size. Sammy also likes cats. While he's never hurt any, he does like to chase them. Supervision is recommended during Sammy's interaction with cats. He enjoys toys & treats. Loves walks, but does need lease training. Sammy goes in/out of the doggie door for play & potty breaks, but stills needs house training. He's content sleeping in the bed with his human companion, in a crate alone or lounging on doggie beds with other canines. Stray Haven is located on a dead-end dirt road in a rural part of VA surrounded by woods. Animals moving on up to the big city life will need time to adjust to the noise of traffic, trains, planes, sirens, door-to-door housing, shopping centers, etc. Thanks for caring about Sammy.
