From beer box to beer litter, that’s the story of these pups’ lives. Just a couple weeks ago, they were abandoned in front of the shelter one snowy day. Nine tiny pups shoved into a tiny beer box. No note. Just an anonymous phone call from someone claiming to have spotted them as they were “walking by” but never knocked on the door.
Thank goodness we were in the building when they were abandoned. Temperatures were low, and there was nothing to keep the pups from freezing… not even a blanket… and nothing to keep them from crawling out of the box into the snow.
They were only four weeks old at the time.
Since then, they have flourished in their new foster homes where they’ve gotten tons of love and affection. Four foster families took only two or three pups each, so each puppy got plenty of individual attention. They’ve been snuggled and kissed and played with, and it shows. These are the happiest, friendliest pups you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet.
From the moment they arrived, they’ve had lots of people…. kids and adults…. and other animals around them. Whether you’re a dog, a kid or even a cat, they’ll race right up to greet you in the hopes that you’ll want to play, because playing is one of their favorite things to do.
We believe the pups are Shepherd/Boxer mixes. Based on their current size, we’re expecting them to be 50 to 60 pounds as adults, so potential adopters should plan on a medium to large dog when they’re all grown up.
The pups have had a taste of housebreaking, but they’re far from perfect at it. Tiny bladders mean frequent outside trips and require patience while their bodies mature. Expect some accidents in the beginning as they work on their technique. We recommend crate training as the simplest way to housebreak, and we’ll be happy to give you some pointers.
The pups are currently in foster care, but they can’t wait to meet you. Please call 330-397-8270 to schedule an appt to meet them at the shelter. They are a bit too young to spay/neuter, but this will be done BEFORE they go home. They will be fixed just as soon as they reach 8 weeks old and can go home the day after their surgery. Until then, please call for an appt to meet them and reserve your favorite. In order to reserve, you must schedule a meeting, fill out an adoption application, be approved and leave a 50% ($100) deposit.
