My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have the most amazing dog I rescued out of a shelter in December. He is a sweet, sweet dog, wonderful companion, extremely well-trained, but has some stranger anxiety when in the home. We have a constant stream of visitors, and so we worry that our house is creating great stress for him. We are truly enjoying every minute with him until we find a home in which he would be more comfortable.

Buddy is five years old and wonderful with my kids. Other than his discomfort with our visitors, he is an absolute dreamboat. He is very well trained. We even took him on vacation recently and he was a dream in the hotel. He can be trusted to roam free in the house while I am at meetings, and has never chewed or destroyed anything, he just wants to please. He loves the car.

He is great with other dogs and just wants to be their friend. He is not concerned by strangers we meet on walks, and even reaches out to sniff them. I think he would provide an ideal companion for someone that doesn't have a lot of visitors.

Buddy's stranger anxiety can be managed. On walks/hikes, he doesn't show this behavior. When someone doesn't have a dog, he will go up to them and sniff them quite often. If they have a dog, he just wants to say "hi" to the dog. His anxiety manifests at home. When a stranger enters the home, he backs away and hides under the table. He will come out to accept a treat left on the floor, but will back away if someone raises a hand or tries to approach him, until he has had a chance to sniff them many times on his own (he prefers to do this while the person is ignoring him). He used to bark at strangers in the home, but has quickly learned the “quiet” command. Now he just barks when someone knocks (which I want him to do).

We love Buddy and wish he would feel comfortable in our home. He is an amazing dog, and makes our family feel whole. Sadly, we decided to find another family for him because it's unrealistic for us to not have lots of visitors with the kids' friends and neighbors stopping by, etc.
