Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sig is a fun Sheltie boy who will bond closely with his person. He has a great time playing with other dogs, greets you enthusiastically, and loves to cuddle. Room for one more? Come meet Sig! He is a wonderful guy who will always be a loyal companion and a wonderful friend.
AGE: 6 years
SIZE: 38 lbs. of love
TEMPERAMENT: Sig loves people! He is very snuggly, and loves to have his head and ears scratched. He makes funny little noises when scratched! Sig needed a little adjustment period when he first came into rescue (as is common with these sensitive Shelties), but now he gets very excited when his foster family comes home. He jumps up and runs around in circles. Simply adorable!
FENCE: A fenced yard is strongly preferred for Sig, since he loves to play with his canine friends. We will consider a home without a fence if the adopter will commit to always having Sig on a leash when outside, for his lifetime (as required in our adoption contract), and if there are other options for Sig and his canine pal(s) to safely play in a secure area. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
DOGS: Sig absolutely needs a forever home with another playful dog or two, because he loves to play with his canine friends in his foster home.
CATS: Unknown. There are no cats in his foster home. He may do fine with a dog-savvy cat.
KIDS: Sig likes kids. He will do best in a home with older children who are steady on their feet and who understand about being respectful with dogs (i.e. who won’t lie down on him or pull on him).
CRATE-TRAINED: Sig has free run of the house in his foster home. He sleeps on one of the doggie beds or the couch at night.
HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Sig has not attended formal training. He responds to come and sit, although sit is not always comfortable for him due to a past injury to his back leg. Sig very much wants to please his person.
LEASH MANNERS: Sig absolutely loves going for leashed walks and he is a very good walker.
CAR RIDES: Sig rides well in a crate in the vehicle.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Average. Sig enjoys playing with the other dogs, and snuggling with his person. He is not high maintenance at all.
BARKING: Average for a Sheltie. Sig barks when he sees or hears someone and/or a dog. He is a protector.
HEALTH ISSUES: Sig had an injury to his back leg prior to coming to rescue that resulted in a limp. Veterinary examination and X-ray while in rescue indicate no residual pain nor potential to correct surgically, and he has no trouble running & playing with his canine foster siblings, or going for leashed walks. He walks up the 3 steps in his foster home. A home where he won't need to do a full flight of stairs to go outside or be with the family would be best. Sig also is being treated for seasonal allergy.
Sig would love a home where he will get lots of attention from his people, and where there is at least one other dog who will want to play with Sig. He’s a very, very sweet and sensitive soul, and will be a wonderful companion for a lucky person or family. He just wants to be part of the family.
Please read our adoption guidelines at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org/howtoadopt prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions.
***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
Sig's adoption fee is $250.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc.
