My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 11/9/13!!!

Patch is a 1 year old puppy who was returned to SGRR through no fault of his own. The special needs of one of the 5 boys in his former family made it impossible for him to remain with the family. Since coming to his foster home in NH, Patch has really blossomed. He is learning quickly to walk nicely on a loose leash and loves the company of the four other dogs in his foster home. He is interested in the cats on the farm, but is not aggressive with them. He is a high energy boy, as are most dogs of this age, but he does settle down and will lay by the computer table when his mom is working. He can sit and shake hands, and is now learning the concept of “stay." His foster mom tells us, "Patch is a little angel - he is such a perfect little puppy. He loves to cuddle and settles down in my chair with me to sew. He LOVES the car, loves to play, is leash trained, likes cats now, and can sit, down and shake hands. He is also learning to ring the door bell to go out. The one accident he had was right by the door. He is a very quick study. He walks into his crate at night -now I don’t even shut the door. "

It was reported that Patch had issues with dribbling pee when he was excited. After a thorough vet check, it seems all he needed was a quieter home and a routine schedule. His foster mom reports that dribbling has not been an issue since the first day he arrived. Patch was one of seven puppies that were born to an SGRR girl that appeared to be primarily Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. However, one of the owners of the puppies had a DNA test and the results were interesting. It seems the puppies are primarily English Bulldog and English Cocker Spaniel, with only 14% Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, and 4% Golden Retriever. It must be that 4% that gives this boy his GOLDEN disposition.

Patch is up-to-date on his vaccinations and neutered. He is just waiting for his forever family to come along and take him HOME! If you understand puppies, please apply for this bundle of puppy love. Like all young dogs, Patch just needs someone with patience, time, and good humor to help him grow to his potential. His foster mom says that Patch is a super smart pup and is on his way to being a perfect dog!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog - make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
