Heidi is a friendly and affectionate young Beagle
mix girl who was found wandering the road in a rural area of WV. She is about 2 yrs. old and weighs only 20 pounds. Heidi came into the shelter with a serious injury to her left eye that had become infected. The shelter staff tried to treat the infection with antibiotics, but despite their efforts, the vet determined her eye could not be saved and had to be surgically removed when she was spayed. Heidi has adjusted extreemly well and has adapted to using her right eye to see--and she doesn't miss a thing! It certainly hasn't affected her fabulous personality either. Heidi walks nicely on a leash and is well behaved indoors too. She enjoys attention, but is also quite content to quietly lay on the floor beside you. Heidi is current on routine vaccinations, already spayed, heartworm neg. (on preventative), crate trained, and microchipped. She gets along well and enjoys playing with other same-sized dogs and thus far doesn't seem particularly interested in the cats in her foster home. She's a delightful little girl who would surely be a wonderful companion.
Important: Heidi is not at a shelter where you can go to meet her. All Safe Hounds Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved before meeting a dog. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved. We do not accept applications for specific dogs. Once an application is approved, we will begin a matching process--the right dog for the right home. If you are unable to adopt at this time, please consider helping us so that we may continue to help them. We have dogs with medical needs and have many mouths to feed. We are always in need of Purina dog food and other items from our wish list as well as financial support to help us care for our dogs.
