My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MURPHY is a wonderful 5 year old owner surrender dog located in New England - his family has found themselves in a situation where they just cannot give him the attention he deserves and are selflessly doing what is best for him.

Murphy is a courtesy posting we are doing for his family so we can find him a wonderful, wonderful home.

This boy is in a home with young children whom he adores; he also has a sister lab mix that he gets along with great; and guess what, he LOVES cats (they chase each other - he's been with cats since he was a baby).

The family really wants to know Murphy will be in a wonderful home so although we are usually very picky about who our dogs go to, we'll be even more picky with this boy - he's been in one very loving home already and can go to a home with nothing less than that!

Murphy is approximately 100 lbs, 5 years of age and is healthy, vaccinated, neutered and 100% sweet.

This is a very active breed of dog and needs an owner(s) who will make sure he knows who is in charge - included below is a short bit of info on the breed which is not seen often in this area - they are simply gorgeous.

Murphy will require an "alpha" owner(s) who knows how to be boss; he is not vicious at all but as normal to this breed, it is a requirement. He is VERY protective however of the children he lives with now and the female lab mix dog in the home. He has had some basic training and is great on a leash.

Murphy requires a fenced in yard as he spends alot of time out there in summer - he will need someone though who is willing to provide him with stimulation and alot of exercise as well as this boy loves to run and play (he's a great soccer player!)

The current owners feel he'd do great in a house as either an only dog or with a female dog of the same or smaller size - he's okay with males but really prefers females!

UPDATE: One of our volunteers has met Murphy on many occasions and says he is just WONDERFUL and any family who gets him will be lucky indeed.

The Beauceron is a herding dog breed from France. It is also known as the Berger de Beauce, the Bas Rouge, or the French Shorthaired Shepherd.

Temperament
This muscular and energetic breed is described as intelligent, calm, friendly, and very protective of children. This is normally a very calm race of dog and perfect for inside and outside the house. . If you normally buy this breed, they are very friendly and stay pretty young in their minds. If you have a Beauceron who is one and a half years, he still is a (big) puppy in his mind. This is positive because the dogs still learn at older ages. This dog isn't as well known as other types of shepherds like the border collie and the German Shepherd, but he still is the strongest one against weather changes. He adapts himself very quickly and he gets pretty old too. This breed can go to 14 years, which is pretty old for dogs of that size.

The Beauceron is a brave, faithful and highly intelligent dog. Fearless, vigilant, and patient, the Beauceron has an aptitude for obedience training and is known for his quick and thorough understanding of his master's desires. They are an excellent natural guard dog whose appearance and demeanor command respect. The Beauceron is happiest when it is working or exercising in wide-open spaces. They are instinctive herders who will herd everything in sight unless trained to do otherwise. Calm, obedient and very loyal, the Beauceron is always eager to please its master. They like to know who is boss and then they follow. They are generally good with children if they are raised with them from puppyhood, although this large energetic breed can be overwhelming to a small child. Even as a puppy at 3 months old it can weight 40 pounds. The Beauceron can be very protective. Thorough training with a firm master is absolutely necessary. The Beauceron will obey commands from all members of the family if trained to do so. This breed is sociable with dogs they know, but they are highly territorial and will not tolerate an intruder. They should not be left alone for long periods of time. The Beauceron should be properly and thoroughly socialized. A Beauceron that has been well socialized and brought up gets along fine under normal circumstances with children, and that also ensures that other dogs and pets will present no problems. They generally get along well with cats if they are introduced to them at an early age.
