My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Simone - I'm a beautiful beige/ gray tabby with white. The vets estimates that I am about  1-2 years old.  I'm extremely social and love snuggling up beside my foster parents and being cuddled and pet!  When I'm content I have a really nice purr.  Now that I'm inside and more relaxed, I am playing again. My favourite toy is my catnip pillow! My kittens hog the cat tree, but that's OK. I'm happy anywhere warm and comfy. When they allow me some space, I too enjoy being perched in the cat tree and looking out the window!

We are the "Patio Squatter Family" because we showed up one day, out of the blue, under our rescuer's patio table in their backyard. You can imagine our rescuer's surprise when they went to have lunch at their patio table, and out popped Mama and three kittens!!! (Our rescuers named us - Mama Simone, Sparrow, Mimi  &  Ti'Loup.)They didn't know where we came from and how we got there! At first, our rescuers thought we had a home and had just come over for a visit. Mama Simone is very friendly & social, so our rescuers thought that perhaps she was lost. However, no one responded to the found ads for Mama Simone and she didn't have a microchip. Instead, poor Mama Simone was likely thrown out or abandoned  - possibly when she went into heat and/or was pregnant with us kittens...... :-(

When our rescuers realized that we were not leaving  - because we had nowhere to go - they didn't want us to spend the winter outside, so they contacted various groups to try and help us.  Their covered patio table made a safe shelter for us and became our "home". We "squatted" here for well over a month! Thank goodness our rescuers put food and water out for us everyday. They even put some beds down for us - under the patio table. But it wasn't easy outside. Especially for poor Mama Simone. Mama was busy nursing, minding kittens, protecting kittens, and trying to find enough food to feed kittens. As a result, Mama was almost skin and bone, as she gave all her nourishment and whatever she was able to catch outside, to us kittens.

Although our Mama is very friendly, we kittens weren't used to people, so we were challenging to get inside and made our rescuers work hard! Sparrow was the first one in. Sparrow was easily scooped and put into the carrier and brought with Mama Simone to our foster home. However, when our rescuers and fosters could not get Mimi & Ti'Loup in on the same day, poor Mama Simone was put back outside - to protect and keep the kittens warm at night, since it was starting to get quite cool. Our rescuers and fosters camped out until all hours of the night / morning to try and get us in - they were very patient and persistent with us. Finally, a week later, Mimi was brought inside. We were very happy to see each other, as Sparrow was quite lonely without his family. Mimi was brought in with Mama Simone, so once again, Mama Simone had a taste of comfy living inside, but then was put back outside the same day - to continue looking after Ti'Loup.... Mama Simone was not too happy at being brought in and out and all the moving around, but being the great-natured kitty and protective mother she is, she adjusted well and hardly complained! Finally, after another  3 days, Ti'Loup was finally caught and brought over with Mama Simone to the foster home. It was a very happy reunion for everyone that day!

The day after we were all inside, we went to the vet's to get checked out. (Poor Mama Simone - yet another move!) We were de-wormed, de-fleaed and received our first vaccines. We were all given a clean bill of health. The great news is that Mama Simone tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV! :-)  So we are now ready for our permanent homes! We would like to be adopted in pairs - with a sibling or our Mama - since we are all quite bonded after our adventures together. Please give us a permanent home - so we can put our "squatting" experiences outside behind us and move on
