My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 04/22/2013: Yogi is 4 years old and weighs a trim10 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL.

Yogi is so playful and very happy to have another young play buddy in the house. Yogi is great in a car, with kids, and with other dogs. He is just a great and jolly guy. He loves to play fetch. He has so much energy that he needs to be with children. He just stares at you with those adoring yorkie eyes—it just melts your heart. He is house-trained ~ what a smart boy! Yogi is not food aggressive; he lets any other dog take his food. Now his toys are a different story. He hides them — sometimes Foster Mom finds one under her sheets in her bed. She puts it back in the toybox and minutes later. he has it back under her sheets. What a little character! He plays with toys so much he destroyed a mountain of toys—there are only 4 doggie toys left. 

Yogi’s perfect home would be one with a fenced-in yard, children 8 and over to play with, and preferably another dog close to his age and size as a companion. Could that be you?

UPDATED BIO 03/07/2013: Yogi is 4 years old and weighs a trim10 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. He recently went to the groomer and got a puppy cut. He loves to run in the sprinklers and then rub in the grass, thereby the need for the puppy-cut!

Yogi is a very high-energy little boy. When it is time for bed, he likes to jump in first and wrestle with FM, playing like she has to wrestle her way into the bed. It’s a great game for him. FM shoves him under the sheet and he wrestles his way out. He hasn't met a toy (even if it was bullet-proof) that he can't destroy. Yogi’s perfect home would be one in which there were children older than 10 years old, another dog close to his size and age to play with, and a fenced-in yard. Note: Since Yogi is a runner, caution should be taken at the outside doors.

He wants to plays with the neighbor kids so much that he sits at the fence and barks at their house so they will come out to play. He really needs active kids or a young active family. He wants to run and, if he gets away from you on a leash –well, you better be in good condition. Yogi has dry eyes, so he needs ointment 2 times a day in each eye--treats make that okay with him. He is house-trained and really prefers outdoors to a pee-pee pad. Yogi is very affectionate and loves hugs and kisses. At night when the playing is over and the lights go out for bed--he is a cuddler right next to FM’s legs.

UPDATED BIO 02/24/2013: Yogi is 4 years old and weighs a trim10 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. Foster Mom reports that Yogi is an amazing little boy. He is so full of love that he would rather stay in bed and cuddle than get up and eat when Foster Dad calls him for breakfast. He loves people, both adults and kids ………. and toys.

Yogi is so grateful to be in a happy loving home that he will get up and give FM kisses, then cuddle in the middle of the night. He wants all the toys to be spread all over the house and yard. When FM picks them up and puts them in the toy box, Yogi looks straight at her as if he’s saying…..“what are you doing—I had them just how I wanted them”…….. then he takes the toys back out and spreads them where he thinks they need to be ~ so cute!

Yogi is very good about getting his eye ointments, since he gets a treat afterward. He endured such negligent care in his previous home that his hair was attached to his eye when he came into rescue, causing scarring in his right eye. He has improved from being blind in his right eye to regaining 80% of his vision ~yippee! He has also improved from not producing any tears to producing 11% tears. Yogi must have ointment in his right eye 3 times a day and 2 times in his left eye for the rest of his life. His doggie eye doctor says this will be necessary for the rest of his life so that he can retain his vision. The antibiotic ointment needs to be placed in each eye every other day.

Yogi loves to play fetch, wrestle, hide-and-seek and running/racing with the neighborhood kids. He sits at the fence and barks at them, begging them to come out and play with him. He loves kids and their high energy level. He does not love cats or birds, however. Yogi is all heart and he is totally filled with love and gratitude for the returned love he receives in his foster home. Yogi’s perfect home would be one with children over the age of 10 years old; a fenced-in yard would be a huge plus since he loves being outside and running and playing soooo much! NOTE: Because of Yogi’s separation anxiety, it is best for him to go into a home where someone isn’t gone long hours; he would be fine as an only dog, or could go into a home with another dog for a buddy.

UPDATED BIO 10/14/2012: Yogi is 4 years old and weighs a trim 10 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. He has had the mass removed from his leg; a biopsy was sent off and it was a benign mass. Currently, Yogi has been prescribed two eyedrops to try to clear up his eyes; however, he may have a condition called "dry eye", but the jury is still out on that.

Yogi is a yorkie that is fixated on his person, meaning that he is never more than a few inches from Foster Mom and constantly studies every move she makes. He even sits by the glass shower door when she showers, patiently waiting for her. He is very curious and looks in the lower cabinets after FM takes something out and follows her when she is running the vacuum cleaner like he is the Inspector General. When FM sits, he is right up in her lap and very happy to be there. Yogi is not food aggressive at all, nor is he an Alpha doggie.

Yogi does appear to have some separation anxiety; FM can hear him sometimes after she leaves for work. He sleeps cuddled up next to her and checks on her throughout the night – he is a true Velcro dog. FM never does anything alone in the house; her little shadow Yogi is always with her. He is very friendly to strangers and all who enter the home. Yogi doesn't mind other doggies being near her, but he has to be closer. His house-training is coming along very well and he will do anything to please his person -he obeys everything and catches on very quickly. He is so affectionate and so devoted and communicates so well----some family is going to be super blessed to adopt this little bundle of love. NOTE: Because of Yogi’s separation anxiety, it is best for him to go into a home where someone isn’t gone long hours; he would be fine as an only dog, or could go into a home with another dog for a buddy.

INITIAL BIO 09/11/2012: Yogi is a sweetheart; he is a 4 year old 10 lb boy who was picked up as a stray by a high-kill shelter. He was severely matted and had an overwhelming tick infestation. He smelled like feces and urine before he was bathed and shaved by his foster mom. FM could tell he was love-starved from the lack of affection he was probably used to receiving, but obviously hasn't received recently due to the horrible condition he was in when rescued. It appeared that someone just kicked him to the curb - poor little guy. Yogi is already neutered, but he needs to have his leg and eye examined. He has a soft tissue mass on his front right leg which needs to be removed, and one of his eyes is irritated because of matted hair that was around his eye; his eye irritation is improving now that the hair is not in his eyes, and has less discharge. We will know more this week, but this little guy needs to have both issues looked at.

Yogi is a busy, active dog that loves noisy toys. He is learning English, as he was previously responding to Spanish commands. He tried to escape on Day #1 - he ran into the glass sliding door full-speed trying to run out of the house. Foster Mom feels that he is a runner; he has also chewed through 2 harnesses in less than 2 days. Yogi likes people - all people, and likes other dogs, as well. He still needs some work in the housetraining department. Stay tuned as his foster parents get to know him better.
