Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Update 11/17/12: Here I am again, Sweet Ivy! I'm 9.3lbs and 11 years old.
Great news...My biopsies came back "Cancer Free"!! My sutures are all out, and my incisions healed up really nice! The growth on the back of my tongue, was also Negative for cancer. My vet said it looked like a "tongue taste bud" went bonkers, and just grew. She said, there is a 50/50 chance it might grow back, so I should have it checked every year.
Foster Mom here! Ivy is so Great with other dogs, large and small! She really loves the attention! She sure loves it when they cuddle with her, and clean her face!
She's doing much better in new places & situations, and being home just with my dogs, for longer stretches of time. I started working on leash training. Her potty training is half & half... The pottying half needs work, but when she needs to "do her business", she will get very antsy, waiting to be let outside.
If you have love & patience, for this sweet cuddle bug, please fill out an application!
Update 11/5/12: Hi, it's IVY! I am doing so Great! FM says there is "No Way" I can be 11 years old! And now that I lost some weight (9.3 lbs), I really look Beautiful!
It looks like I am House-trained...I go to the door when I need to go out. If you aren't around, I get close to going on the potty pad! And I have to walk to a different place for that!
FM tells me that I'm very smart! I know sit, shake, I am doing really good at stay & wait, also! After we all go outside to do our business, we all go into the kitchen to wait for our treat. I finally realized that I am the last one to get mine, so I sit and wait very nice, until my turn comes.
I am so easy going, but I like toys and to be outside with my people. I am starting to play with FM's other dogs.
I am still waiting for the results of my biopsies, but I just look and feel So GREAT, it has to be good news! I sure don't look or act 11 years old!!!
If you feel I would be a good fit with your family...PLEASE, fill out an Adoption Application!!!!
Lots of Love! IVY
Update 10/28/12: Ivy is now 9.5 lbs, her ideal weight would be 8.5 lbs to 9 lbs. She's 11 yrs. old according to the paperwork from the puppy mill, but she seems more like 8 or 9.
Ivy found that toys are fun to play with! She rummages through the toy basket, taking out toys, until she finds the one she wants.
Ivy has had her 4 mammary tumors removed, and she's been spayed. She came through the surgery with ease! Her incisions look very good, and she gets around with no problems. I will find out the results of the biopsy in about 5 days.
She does not have any teeth, but her tongue does not hang out of her mouth.
She's doing well with house-training, she's a smart girl! She is a cuddler, and my other dogs love to cuddle with her. Once her incisions are healed, she'll be rough- housing with the others.
Ivy will need a family where someone is home most of the time. We do not kennel her...I tried once, only for 1hr. & 15 min. And my husband said that she was shaking so bad!
Also, we're not sure about children... She starts to bark when she hears children's voices, why, I don't know. I will see how she responds to the neighbor children who are 9 yrs. & 12yrs. She also barks at the T.V. When she hears singing. Again, I don't know why.
She does very well if just left out. She just stays in the T.V. Room, with my others, When we're gone. I have a really cute panty with suspenders that work GREAT! A pair of them would go with her.
She's a beauty...She'll love you unconditionally!
BIO UPDATE 10-17-2012: IVY had her initial Vet visit on 10/16. She was found to have 4 more mammary tumors. At first, her outlook seemed grim, because it was thought she could have cancer. After doing several, a Chemistry 17 Panel, a CBC, and X-rays...the outlook change to very promising! PLEASE, if you want to know what those tests mean, you can Google them. Make sure you put in Chemistry 17 panel FOR DOGS, same with the CBC. I did find out that IVY has 5 mammary tumors, the one large one, and 4 smaller ones. All her tests show her to be in very good health for an 11 year old dog!
IVY's teeth are all gone...but her tongue only hangs out a little, which is really good. I mix good canned food, with a small kibble dry food, and she gobbles it up. She is very energetic, bright and alert, and a Super Cuddler! Just so sweet, you can't help but fall in love with her!
IVY will be going in for her spay & possible tumor removal at the same time, on 10/26. It might need to be done as two separate surgeries, but the tumors will be removed.
For a Mill dog, she is remarkable...very social, loves to be outside walking around the yard, actually did pretty good her first time in a harness and walking on leash. She is climbing steps already, and working on going down them. IVY loves to sleep with her people or person, and will not move, all night. Potty training will get easier once she stops marking her spots...I put a diaper on her, that way she doesn't leave her scent behind, and she is doing it less,
She is a very smart girl, and already knows that when she wakes up, or after eating, it's time to go out.
I will update after IVY has her surgery.
INITIAL BIO 10/14/2012: IVY came from a puppy mill in Missouri, and she is 11 years old and weighs approximately 8lbs. She has one mammary tumor, which is about the size of a tennis ball. It is by her back leg, and sits in the diaper, so it is out of the way and protected. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. For being 11 yrs. old, she has so much pep and energy, and looks to be in good shape. Her teeth aren't good, or what's left of them...I'm thinking she might have a few back teeth, but the others look to be gone.
She is so sweet and affectionate. Ivy really likes to be cuddle, and if she is laying next to you, will stay there until you get up. She has a beautiful colored coat, which was shaved down, due to matting. After she had her bath, it just shimmered...I can't wait until it grows out, and I can get her a nice haircut. Ivy sure seems to be playful...2 of my own dogs almost got her to play with them...maybe in a few more days. She also wants to do what mine do, and is already trying to climb the stairs.
For a mill dog, I was surprised she was so adventurous...she ran around the yard, went up to my dogs without fear, and let us pet her. Normally, dogs from a mill will do "circling", especially when they need to go to the bathroom. This is because they were in small cages with many others and didn't have the space to walk around. Ivy, has not circled, but she does like to go and mark her spots...often, right now. I have a doggie diaper on her, so I just let her go. It's only been dribbles, because she has already been outside. When she has time to settle in, and get used to her new home, I feel this will lessen.
Ivy will be going to the vet on Tuesday, 10/16/2012 for her first exam, vaccinations, blood work, and especially to assess the tumor. I will update her bio after her vet visit.
