Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Many thanks to Jenn Wilson at www.letmeshootyourpet.net for taking professional pictures of Sammy!**
Sammy is an approximately 3 years old, 45 pound yellow lab mix possibly with husky. He is a super loving dog who has been through so much in is life already. The amazing part is that he is still so sweet and content. Sammy loves attention and will sit at his foster mom's feet for hours to be pet. He is housetrained, and can be left loose in the house while his foster is away. He has never chewed anything. At night he enjoys sleeping on his dog bed. He is not a big barker but will bark is someone comes to the door or is scared by a noise.
Sammy is thrilled to be around the other dogs and cats in his foster home. His tail goes around in circles he wags it so hard when he sees the dogs and cats. He loves to go for walks with his foster family and is pretty good on a leash and walks fairly well on his flat collar. Sammy will spend time licking the cats in his foster home if they let him. He will sometimes chase the cats if they run from him but he has not been aggressive with them - seems to be chase in the name of play!! Sammy is also great with the child in his foster home and will allow the child to pet him.
Sammy has a gentle, sunny nature which makes everyone who meets him fall in love. Sammy was rescued from a rural animal control pound where he had been for several weeks. He was nervous at the shelter as there were so many loud noises, but as soon as he walked into his foster home he relaxed. In his foster home it did take him some time to adjust to being a "dog" again, learning to play, to go through doorways and walk upstairs and he seemed to be nervous of human hands. Sammy needed to be around humans who were gentle and could show him love so he could trust again. With this love he has grown and shone in his foster home. He is truly an incredible animal who will make a very bonded, loyal, loving companion for a lucky person or family. Sammy sometimes still gets nervous of new or loud things and will pee out of nervousness at the vet or when getting into the car. Once in the car he just lies in the back but he is just unsure as to where he is going.
Sammy was heart worm positive when he was rescued. He has gone through the difficult and painful treatment and is now healthy and doing well. Poor guy! We are just so happy to have been able to rescue him and get him the treatment he needed to become healthy and have another chance at life.
Sammy would love a home with other animals and/or people who are home a lot. If you are willing to give him a chance and have patience and can show him he can trust you to care for him, he will be a loyal, loving companion.
Sammy will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and was heartworm tested and had two treatments. He will need further testing in a few months to make sure the heartworm is gone.
Sammy is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. His adoption donation is $375. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered,
microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. Please fill out an application at our website
