Here's what the humans have to say about me:
TROOPER'S STORY IS A SAD ONE, BUT NOW HE IS HAPPY! He has been waiting since 8/2011 for a home of his very own. Meet Trooper. He was rescued from a DFW area kill shelter August 2011 with a foster willing to help him. After 2 days, they decided they no longer wanted to foster, not just Trooper, but any dog. They threatened to dump him now at another area kill shelter, so I went and picked him up and had to board him until I had room or another foster for him. After a couple of months, and no adopter or foster, Trooper came home with me where he has been ever since. He has been waiting over a year and a half now for a home of his very own. Trooper is a very handsome little fella. He is so smart, playful and very much a pleaser. He loves his 'people' and is a loyal boy. He loves to chase a ball, and the playing keep away with it. ;) He has a huge scar down the length of his entire back as a constant reminder of his past life and the abuse he endured. The injury is healed but the scar may always remain. The vet believes it is either a scar from being doused with gas or some other flammable material and set on fire, or an acid/chemical burn. In my opinion, it just gives him character and makes him that much more special. Upon meeting him, it is very obvious he holds no grudges against people and he has never met a person he has not loved, kids of all ages included. Trooper does have some doggy 'issues' that need to be disclosed. He is what we would call 'excitable aggressive'. He sees other dogs and when they get near him, he gets so excited that he is unsure what he should do, so he displays some aggressiveness but our trainer and myself both feel from observing him and having him in my care, that he could possibly acclimate and live a great life in a home with a submissive female. When animals (male/female) approach his kennel, he does not display any issues except curiousity and normal playful traits. Maybe because he knows that with this approach he is safe from any harm. He just needs a patient owner who is willing to work with him and show him there is no need to be scared or a home where he can be the only dog. A permanent place where he feels safe, welcomed and a part of the family. Here with me, and because of the different rescues coming and going in my care, I am sure he does not feel completely secure like he would in a place all his own. The routine here is always changing a bit with new rescues and in a home, he would have a routine and I feel really acclimate well and be the happiest little fella ever. He already is one of the happiest boys I have ever met- but I know he is aching for a home full of love- something all dogs deserve. :) Trooper is around 2 1/2 -3 years old and is a Labrador/Border Collie mix male, fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and on hw preventative. He is hw NEGATIVE. Contact jenniferjochat@gmail.com OR affoftx@gmail.com for more information on our dear sweet boy Trooper. He has been waiting so patiently and everyone who has met him, adores this happy go lucky lovebug!
