My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sophie passed her CGC (AKC Canine Good Citizen) test with her foster mom on December 22, 2013! She passed with flying colors and it was suggested she continue on to get therapy dog training. Sophie would make an excellent therapy dog.

Sophie is an adult, purebred American Pit Bull Terrier. She probably was ADBA registered dog but we have no papers on her. She is 2.5yr old (born in March 2011). She is a dark buckskin with a black mask and has natural ears & tail. She has a nice body, straight legs, a very athletic shape and build - she is a very nice looking dog. Fully grown and only 42 lbs! She is spayed, microchipped, UTD on shots, tested negative for heartworm, lyme, erlichia, babesia, and is on monthly heartworm & flea/tick prevention. She is also housebroken and crate trained. Sophie is being fostered in a home with dogs, cats, birds and small animals and is an absolute angel with all! She knows basic commands like "sit", "come", "down". She a really good car rider and makes a great traveling buddy! Sophie is an incredible dog with an amazingly soft temperament and would do well in almost any situation.

Sophie is one of the sweetest, gentlest girls you will ever meet! She is super snuggly and easy to handle. She has a soft mouth and is very responsive. She walks nicely on a loose lead with a martingale collar. She loves to be close to her person. She is very relaxed when she is handled and she will melt into your arms if you pick her up. She will literally stay in your arms for hours :) She is very pliant, she will bend herself into a little pretzel while trying to squeeze in any lap. She absolutely loves the touch of a human. She's appropriately submissive, shows no food/toy guarding towards people or other pets. Sophie is a lovely dog in a cute little pit bull package. She is a nice example of the breed. She is eager to please, food motivated and presents great eye contact. She is gentle when taking treats and waits patiently for her meals. She has never met a stranger, gets along great with kids and will bond strong with her family. She loves to play, but is easily entertained - give her a chew bone, stuffed kong or a toy and she will stay busy for hours.

She’s very athletic and can jump a fence if left outside unattended and ignored. She won’t go far, she’ll just jump the fence to come look in a window or hang out by your car to make sure you haven’t forgotten her. It’s only happened once when she thought she was being left behind and has not repeated. Sophie is losing a little of her puppy like affability around other dogs now that she’s growing up. Her greetings with other dogs are more tense when the dog is larger. She’s still super friendly with same sized dogs and smaller dogs and cats. She’s just a little nervous about big ones. She is still what we consider to be dog social even though some introductions with larger dogs can be tense. She does play nicely with other dogs that she gets to know.

She’s got a very slim, athletic body with a super short coat. She’s got a beautiful physique and could do dog sports if her owner wanted. She really just wants to do what you want to do though whether it be a hike in the woods or laying on a dog bed beside your computer. She’s very versatile. She’s been to a flyball class and the exciting atmosphere was not to her liking, she would have rather been home snuggled up watching a movie. She’s a very sweet snuggly dog. She’d love to share a couch or bed but would be equally content if you put her dog bed by your chair so she could touch your foot while she sleeps.

Every dog has their story...Sophie was originally rescued by the HSUS during a dogfighting bust in the summer of 2011 when she was just a puppy. She was about 5 months old when we brought her into our program. She’s been adopted and returned for divorce and hard times. She is a wonderful, gentle companion and deserves a real home and family to call her own. She needs someone that won't give up on her when life brings us those unexpected changes. She is such a special dog and needs a person that will love and care for her the rest of her life. Please fill out application below if interested in providing Sophie with a loving forever home.

Please keep in mind that we are a foster based rescue only. There is no facility where these dogs can be visited prior to application approval as they are all in private homes. This is for both the safety of our foster homes and our dogs. Please take a minute to fill out the adoption application if you are interested in one of our dogs. We also do not place our pit bulls in homes with dogs of the same gender. We adopt as single dogs or to homes with dogs of the opposite gender only. We appreciate breed experience.
