Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Phoebe is a very special, and very lucky, standard dachshund. She escaped from neglectful owners who left her sick, covered with fleas, and almost completely emaciated. Phoebe escaped from her yard, and made her way to the home of some Good Samaritans who took one look at her and rushed her to their vet.
After extensive care at the vet, Phoebe recovered from an infection and gained a small amount of weight. The couple contacted Animal Cruelty investigators regarding Phoebe's situation. When the original owners were advised that a cruelty case was pending against them, they quickly took down the "lost dog" signs they had posted throughout the neighborhood. The Good Samaritans contacted us to see if we could help this sweet dog and we were glad to be able to help.
As you can see, Phoebe is still incredibly underweight; weighing about 13 and 1/2 pounds when she should weigh about 20 pounds. She has been immunized now, and will be spayed, have a dental cleaning and be microchipped after she gains at least 3 pounds. In the meantime, Phoebe is living in a loving foster home where she is fed premium dog food and supplements to help her return to her normal weight. Her health is quite good overall and we expect no adverse effects as a result of her current underweight condition.
Despite the horrible things poor Phoebe has endured, she is unbelievably loving and friendly. She made friends right away at the vet's office, even with a couple of toddlers who were there in the waiting area. She enjoys the company of her current foster siblings and is grateful to finally receive the love and attention she deserves.
Phoebe really enjoys "couch time" with her foster family and soaks up the attention as they relax together. She currently sleeps in her crate in the bedroom, but would much prefer to sleep in the "Big Bed" with her adopters! Phoebe will be a loving, appreciative family member who will enhance your life and bring you a lot of joy. Are you the loving family that Phoebe is seeking?
Can you give Phoebe a loving, permanent home with lots of attention?
