Rhyder was originally brought to a kill shelter in New Jersey as a stray. She sat there for 7 months, until she was pulled into a "rescue" in Texas. To make a long sad story short, Rhyder spent almost a year there, until it was raided and shut down. They found close to 300 pitbull type dogs being housed in deplorable conditions; almost all living in their own feces, covered in ticks, and emaciated. Some dogs even died from heat exhaustion.
Well lucky for Rhyder, she made it back to New Jersey safe and sound after a long heart wrenching search, and landed herself in a foster home (actually with a volunteer at the kill shelter she was first at who loved her very much) , and was pulled into our rescue. Despite what Rhyder has been through she's remarkably undamaged, and an amazing dog.
She craves attention and to be right by your side, always looking for your reassurance to make sure she is doing what you want her to do. She is a fast learner and does well offleash. She knows sit and down for now, but is learning so much more fast. She loves toys, and to run and swim! She has theee best ears, they really are. Sometimes they both go completely forward, then both upright, then one up one down, floppy, to the side.. etc they're so cute!
She loves her foster brother and sister (both pits), and does well with other dogs. She doesn't pry too much into them unless they initiate the play, so she'd be a great buddy for any type of dog personality. She's really more interested in you, probably because she's been deprived human contact for so long.
Rhyder is a fantastic dog that just wants to be loved, and it's what I love most about her. It's hard to think about what she's been through, and still she has faith in humans and came back with such high spirits, and a great outlook on life. She's really something to be inspired by. If you care to learn a little bit more about the raid here's an article. http://montgomerycountypolicereporter.com/?p=48317.
It's time for Rhyder to get the life she deserves, I am just her stepping stone, will you be her furever?
