Here's what the humans have to say about me:
As Ruby’s foster mom I hate having to post her age, because I know how unappealing she is to most people who are looking to adopt. I have fostered many dog for NJBR, but never a dog over 4 years old. Since Ruby I have seen a new side of this wonderful breed. I’ve heard people tell the story of how senior dogs are so appreciative, it’s not a myth Ruby is the most loving, appreciative dog I have ever fostered, her appreciation is indescribable.
Now for the said part of how poor Ruby came to us. She was raised by a family since she was a puppy then at 10 years old she was dumped by them in a city shelter. How could they you ask? Well I don’t know I ask myself that same question every time I look at her.
Now for the good part. Ruby came to us as what seemed to be a frail battered boxer. NJBR completed senor blood work, two teeth extractions plus cleaning, ear cleaning and an ultra sound of her bladder, because she had blood in her urine. We are happy to report she is in great health! We noticed she was a bit wobbly on her back legs, but with some good exercise she is as strong as ever and tries to jump on the bed, she can’t jump up because our bed is too high, so we lift her up : ) Her fur and skin have improved tremendously the black underbelly that once was is starting to turn pink. We think she was an allergic dog at some point, but with a grain free diet her skin and muscle tone have made tremendous improvements.
If ever there was the perfect boxer Ruby’s picture would be front and center. I am not even joking. Ruby is a tiny little thing weighing about 39 pounds; she is the littlest boxer I have ever seen. To give you an idea of how tiny she is, she can walk right under my other two boxers without crouching. She gets along fabulous with my 3 dogs so well that she takes every opportunity to give them kisses. Ruby has never shown any signs of aggression with people, dogs or food. She is great around children and I don’t think she would mind cats. Aside from the fact she is so much smaller than her foster brothers and sister you don’t even know she’s around, except when she is curled up on your lap sleeping or giving you lots of kisses. Ruby is very low maintenance she enjoys the sport of extreme nap taking, but when the mood strikes she can box and run like any young pup.
Most people apply to adopt a boxer from a rescue organization because they want to provide a home to an abandoned boxer and make a difference, well here’s your chance to make a difference ADOPT RUBY! You may want your family to grow old with your new dog, but what about the dogs that are already old? Who do they grow older with? There isn’t much time on Earth for these senior boxers, but YOU still have plenty of years to adopt a boxer to grow old with. Ruby deserves a forever home to call her own. I guarantee you won’t be sorry. Please give Ruby her forever home now and be the family she greets later at the rainbow bridge.
