Give Me a Home by Christmas for FREE!
The Humane Society of West Alabama's Home for the Holidays campaign aims to have as many homeless pets home as possible by the end of December! During November & December 2012, we've waived adoption fees for adult cats 1 year and older and reduced younger cats' fees to only $40! Make a cat's Christmas wish come true!

This very special, lucky guy is Andre, a long-haired solid white male adult cat, possibly a large-set Siamese mix. He is a very sweet, social guy! Easy to handle, and he absolutely loves spending time with us! Andre was abandoned by someone who once cared for him, though he is a sweet, gentle domestic house cat and was never able to fend for himself. When he was found, he was knocking on death's door - and it looked like he almost answered. As you can see, he is still quite emaciated - and this is after a few weeks of intensive care at a vet clinic! He almost starved to death, and developed liver damage from the starvation. It made it difficult for Andre's to eat or get any appetite back. It's almost like it was painful to eat.
To add to Andre's dire situation, it was discovered he has a hyperthyroid condition, which is treatable and would be perfectly maintained under different circumstances. But in his current condition, it has only added to poor Andre's nutritional problems. But under the right care, Andre has recovered. His vet has seen nothing but improvement and great response to his easy daily thyroid medication. But he has recommended he not be inside the adoption center due to his stress level, and believes he will recover more quickly in a foster home with one-on-one care. Andre is doing well at the adoption center for now, which let us know how well he does around other animals. He needed almost no adjustment time before he immediately greeted other gentle kitties and curled up for a nap near a window for sunbathing! Andre is such a sweet and mellow guy! He's gentle and very easy to handle. He's very friendly and a little chatty, always happy to see the volunteers!! We are still open to finding a foster home for Andre. He needs some help filling those empty spaces back into his skinny tummy! We're also looking forward to his internal health and lackluster fur only improving, so we know within just a couple months' time he will look and move around like a totally different cat! If you can help by fostering Andre here in Tuscaloosa County, please email us at humaneswa@yahoo.com or send us a fostering application!

Our adoptable animals have routine vet visits, and are as healthy as possible as soon as they are in our care. Vet records are provided to adopters. Read the descriptions thoroughly and note the specific personalities or special criteria we recommend (some are not good around kids, other cats, dogs, etc.). We cannot accept applications from minors (19 and under, in the state of Alabama). Read up on our adoption process. Then, if you feel your home might be the right forever home and you would like to adopt this cat, submit an online application form.
