Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Update 9/18/12: Little One's blood tests came back much improved! The liver shunt surgery was a success. Dr Hay said a lot of people like to keep their dogs like Little One on the special prescription diet but he could slowly start trying some regular dog food too (as long as he is playful & healthy). He should get blood tests once a year to check on his liver and make sure everything is still working well.
Little One and his temporary brother have become secret buddies. Foster mom even caught them snuggling on the couch the other day, when nobody was looking.
UPDATE 9/10/12: This week Little One, still fostered in Clearwater, FL, is getting ready for his return visit to the vet since it is now 8 weeks after his surgery. He will get his follow up lab work done to confirm how well he is doing after that pesky liver shunt issue was treated. Little One's only medical need is his strictly prescription diet. No treats allowed. He continues to charm everyone that he meets. He is always doing one of 3 things:
1. looking at his target (usually his foster mom) and then sprinting full tilt towards it(her) without any brakes so eventually accidentally ramming his playmate.
2. sleeping as close to his person's face as he can possibly climb, even with the risk of falling off beds, couches, chairs (no risk is too great for him to try to love you EVEN more). OR,
3. he is off by himself throwing a toy around and trying to hunt it, race to it and throw it once more (this game can last up to half an hour effectively tiring him to the point of returning to activity #2).
He is getting very good with his potty pads. He does still miss sometimes and he can confuse a bath mat or rug with a pee pad, but we're still learning. He is learning to play with the other dogs very well and even stand up for himself when he feels he has the best of the toys. He has (unfortunately) learned to bark at the door when the other dogs sound the alarm. Little One and his foster dad have bonded very closely and share a pillow every night. During the day he follows his foster mom all around the house. He would LOVE to find a home with plenty of attention to be paid to him as he is still a puppy and does need to be watched closely and be redirected as his training continues. He would love nothing more than a family that has the energy to play followed by even more time to snuggle and sleep. He could not be a more loving & silly puppy and someone will be very lucky to have him as a member of their family for many years to come.
UPDATED BIO 07/31/2012: Little One is just an 11 month old 7 lb puppy recovering from liver shunt surgery in Clearwater, FL. Little One is going to get his stitches out tomorrow and he will be SO excited to get the e-collar off! He has been wonderful in his recovery from surgery. By tomorrow afternoon he will get to run and play again as he has been begging to do and he won't be running into every wall and doorframe with his head cone :). This is one darling little puppy!
UPDATED BIO 7/13/2012: Little One is now being fostered in Clearwater, FL and is 100% puppy. His new FM suspects he may be a little younger than a year because he is just floppy and silly all of the time. He is either climbing/falling all over the people in the room, finding anything he can turn into a toy, throwing a rope or ball around to himself (very self entertaining guy), or falling fast asleep wherever he lay. He has these "pig-tail" ears that flop around his face as he gallops around and his tongue finds it's way out of his mouth when he is excited or sleepy... which he is either of those most of the time. He seems to have gotten the testosterone out of his system since his neuter because that favorite "past time" of his mentioned in his initial bio is no longer an issue :). Little One is great on a leash but still needs a lot of work with potty training. He is very kind to the other dogs in the house and when they tell him to "back off" he promptly complies. If the others get too rowdy, Little One simply lays down until things settle. We are getting ready for his upcoming surgery for his suspected liver shunt on 7/16 and he has been a healthy pup on his medication and special food. If anyone is looking to adopt a very cute and spunky puppy and has the energy for training and loving one... this guy might be your perfect fit!
