For a large breed young dog, Genevese really is pretty easy to take care of. Sure he has his moments when he wants to climb in your lap – when he forgets that he is much larger than he was as a puppy – and when he races around the yard playing with the other dogs, but he is pretty content many times to lay near his humans and chew on a nyla-bone or some doggie chew toy. He would love to snuggle in your lap and sometimes barks at you if you are sitting down and “ignoring” him but he just wants to let you know how much he likes your attention. He is quite an affectionate and sweet boy.
Genevese gets along great with the other dogs. Once in a while he has to be reminded to be careful with the small dogs but he prefers to play with the bigger dogs anyway.
At crate time, Genevese sometimes pretends he doesn’t know you are going to bed or leaving for work. When he realizes you know he is avoiding the inevitable, he gets all excited and sometimes even runs into his crate. He knows he gets a treat for going in there and I think he really can’t resist them. Once in the crate, he settles right down and is very good.
We do not know how Genevese (sometimes called Veesee) would do with cats. He is also a little over rambunctious at times and may knock down really small children.
