If you're looking for a gentle giant, Kurt is the dog for you. This absolutely gorgeous kid was part of one of our most recent intake groups from Chicago's Animal Care and Control. While strolling through the rescue pavilion we came across this very large adorable boy. We have a love for the Shepherd/Rottie mixes and had to give this one a chance. His sweet disposition, gentle eyes and kind demeanor won us over immediately. Kurt was meant to be an NLOL dog!
Sadly Kurt was an owner give-up. He and Goldie were brought into ACC together. Not until later in the day did we realize that these two kids were a pair. Based on their affection for each other and the obvious fact that Goldie has had multiple litters, chances are they were being bred together. Unfortunately that's a sad fact and something that we see a lot of. We felt they both deserved a chance to be someone's cherished canine partner/family member and wanted to give them an opportunity to start a brand new life.
While Kurt is a very large dog, he walks incredibly well on leash. He is very intelligent and eager to please. He's incredibly food motivated and loves to sit for treats. With some good old fashioned training, Kurt is guaranteed to blossom into a wonderful family pet. Kurt LOVES human affection and regularly goes in for the kiss. He thrives on the attention from our volunteers and has bonded with his NLOL friends. He is so desperate to be that loyal, dedicated pal. While a dog Kurt's size can be intimidating and serious looking, Kurt is anything but. He's a big giant goof who loves a good game of chase and has discovered that rolling around in the grass and getting his belly rubbed is quite a great thing.
Because of Kurt's size and breed mix, we feel he would not be a good fit for a first time dog owner. He will need a strong, loving handler who will find a good balance of giving Kurt the kindness and love he needs as well as being his leader. We think he'd do well in a household with older kids as an only dog. No kitty friends for this big guy, please!
