Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Taffy is an absolutely adorable, 31 pound, 6-7 month old female Golden/Lab mix. She just happens to have the best trait of each breed and is extremely intelligent to boot. She definitely has the "golden personality" and the gorgeous coat of a Lab in a golden shade. Regardless of her breed, she's a Velcro dog for sure! Taffy has just been spayed and is up to date on all her puppy shots.
Taffy has done well with children she has met on walks and at the vet's office, and does very well with the 3 kitties in her foster home as well as 3 foster doggy siblings. Even though her foster siblings are much larger than she is, she gets along with all of them and runs right alongside the biggest one. Her foster brother (a 75 lb. chocolate Lab) is totally in love with this little girl and follows her everywhere she goes!
Although Taffy went to her foster home totally untrained, she has picked up the housetraining skills rather quickly by copying what her foster siblings do. She has only had one accident in the house so far and that was when she first arrived. She is very food motivated so that has made it easy to teach her some simple commands such as "sit" and "stay". Of course, she's very young so her attention span is similar to that of a flea, but with patience, this little girl will be trained in no time!
Taffy also loves her toys, whether they are stuffed (soon to be "stuff-less"), balls, ropes or butcher bones. Just like most puppies, she loves to chew on things so her foster parents make sure she has plenty of fun things to chew on. She has not chewed on any article of clothing or things in the house since she has been in her foster home.
Taffy loves her new dog beds (her foster home has 9 of them) and can sometimes be found sharing her bed with her foster siblings. She was only crated at night the very first night she arrived, but has been allowed free roam of the master bedroom ever since. She sleeps through the night and does not move off her dog bed until her foster parents ask her to go downstairs to potty and have some breakfast.
Leash walking may be something new to Taffy, but like all other things she's experienced so far, she's a quick learner. Since all her foster siblings have harnesses for walking, she was given one as well and was perfectly content to just be another member of the pack. She does not pull on the leash although she's sometimes confused with her foster mom's directions. All she does, though, is copy what the others are doing and soon enough, they're all walking together again.
This little girl would make a wonderful addition to a family that has the patience to teach her the skills she needs to be a perfect doggy companion. She would like a home with someone who would be home the majority or the entire day with her since she's still so very young and has a bit of training to do.
If you're interested in this little girl, please fill out an application and one of our volunteers will get back to you shortly. Taffy will be waiting for you with sloppy puppy kisses and a waggy, waggy tail
